As many of you know, our own porch member r8shell r8shell , like other members of the porch, is quite the talented artist. I have been thoroughly impressed by her scrimshaw work that she and others have shared. I reached out to her to see if she had any interest in doing a little piece of work for me. Our son has a cat named Pepper, so I asked (begged, pleaded) if Rachel could work some of her magic for me. Needless to say, I was super pleased what she came up with.

It's simply wonderful, isn't it? I think I'll hit her up to do a penguin one for my sister next, LOL.

Anyways, thank you so much r8shell r8shell for agreeing to do this, I'm super grateful!

I was also hoping that this could be a thread for anyone/everyone to share their examples of Rachel's awesome work.

Great work as usual r8shell!:thumbsup: Wonderful to see you sharing your talent.
I gave r8shell a couple of suggestions but what she surprised me with was better then my suggestion. Here it is along with another talented BF artist, sunknife sunknife 's leather work.

if it looks familiar that's because it's my BF avatar

Thanks again r8shell and glennbad glennbad thanks for starting this thread.

I love the ones I've seen posted here on BF and hope to see more. Each is a one of a kind and displays a fine artist touch.

Glenn, the cat that Rachel did for you is superb!:cool::thumbsup: (Kind of looks like a cat that swallowed the red sparrow.😁)
And James, your avatar from Rachel is the cat's pajamas!:thumbsup::cool:
Congrats, guys, and plaudits to Rachel!

I'm the extremely fortunate and elated owner of a couple of knives that display Rachel's superior scrimshaw talent. One is a small Rough Rider stockman with a feather on one side and Euler's Identity on the other; this is one of four knives I carry literally every day.

The other knife is a RR smooth white bone canoe to which Rachel added on one side a decorative Native Americanesque design to make the knife look like a watercraft:

On the other side of the knife, she put together a composite from a bunch of photos I sent her showing scenes from the place we've vacationed on Lake Huron for over 30 years:

I haven't been on the forums much lately...this time of year always brings an extreme slow-down in the shop, hard to get any time down there. However, I did want to bring this thread back up to give accolades to our own r8shell r8shell . There are many talented artists on BF, and she is no exception. I pestered her this year to do another piece of scrim work for me, and she came through again!

My sister loves penguins. When I am out at the flea markets, I always keep my eyes open in case I see something penguin-related for her. Anyways, Rachel took a stock photo idea I sent her and turned it into this work of art...

I am so thankful that there are talented artists like Rachel on BF, willing to make our ideas a reality. Thank you again for your fine work!
