This is a design I have been playing with for a little while. It's very comfortable and light. The tang is 80% of the blade width and goes all the way to the thong hole. Black canvas micarta slabs milled out to accept the tang and secured with epoxy and Loveless pins. Blade steel on this one is 5/32" x 1 1/8" D-2 58-60 Rc. Hollow ground. Let me know what you think.

Real nice.

That is my favourite way of putting a knife together too. Of the 14 knives I have made 7 have been rabbited tangs with micarta scales in D2. Strong, light and they feel good in the hand. As I do not have a belt grinder I find them quicker to make and finish with hand tools than full tangs.

Cheers

I would like to say that I really like the look of this knife.

I have a huge appreciation for this style of construction.

But, at the risk of harshing the mellow, or being a pedant, I would submit that the construction is a mortise tang, not a rabbet.

I provide references.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbet which points out that a rabbet is at the edge of the material.

And http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortise_and_tenon which shows that the inner part is encapsulated on all sides, much like your knife.

This knife looks very beautiful, a good choice for EDC, if have a good Leather for the Knife, i think more better, thanks...

Thanks, for the nice comments. This one is turning out to be a good seller for me. I offer it in differant blade shapes(skinner, EDC, Bushcraft) all based on the same handle shape.Marion, you're probably right but I will elect to call it a Rabbet tang:D It just sounds better than mortise, and I like to party.

Mortised or rabbet is the same for me.
And you did an exquisite work. I also love to do the same as soon as possible.
really nice!

Thanks again everyone. I hope to use mine in the morning to dress out this years first Whitetail. Because of work I missed out on the archery season. Now it's muzzle loader time, and the freezer needs some serious restocking.

Sweet knife. I really like the radiused plunges, I feel they are stronger than a sharp plunge. Love the handle too.
