Hey, Walt,

I'm kinda interested, but I have a couple of questions:

1) Is the motor noisy? I don't think I could stand the competition between the motor on my skull and the voices in my head!!

2) Does the motor get warm/hot after, say, 20 or 30 minutes?

3) Finally, how does the helmet secure and seal? I have facial hair, and I want to know how many straps I have to contend with if the motor catches fire!!

Other than that, it looks SWEET!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Having lost my fair share of eyebrows in incidents preceded by the phrase, "Hey, y'all, watch THIS!!!", I have gained much wisdom as I aged, and found that a flaming object, mixed with hair, produces the most annoying smell, not to mention sensation!

Still, that didn't come out quite right...I meant that I have facial hair, so I might not get a good seal, and I also want to know how complex it is to get the darned thing to seal properly, period! I seriously do worry about the fire thing, though, having had a friend whose spelunking helmet light caught fire while he was dangling on a rope about 50' about the floor of a cavern! Shorted out, and he nearly splattered himself trying to unfasten his chin strap...I can imagine a similar situation in front of a grinder. EEK!

The motor is not really noisy. I have worn it for hours without it irritating me much, and my brother wears his all the time. I don't think you would find it irritating, and it is nice having that cool air blowing down across the face.

2) Does the motor get warm/hot after, say, 20 or 30 minutes?

The motor stays nice and cool. I notice no difference from when first turned on to what it is like hours later.

When I wear the helmut, I normally keep the chin strap (one strap with velcro) tucked back up inside, and never attach the strap. The helmet stays in place without a strap, and the headband is adjustable for your size of head. There are two soft rubber flaps that are attached to the visor, and they sort of rest against your cheeks/sides of chin area when the visor is down. That is the seal. I wore it with and without a beard.

This is not like a respirator, where you have to have a tight facial seal, because the air that is sucked in the back and through the filter then comes down past your face and out around your cheeks and chin. It is not totally dust tight like a respirator would be, but it is pretty nice!

As far as the motor catching fire......if it does I hope I am there to watch!! It would be an added bonus if I had the video camera along to film it too!
