It's never really about race..it's about desire and fear and who's got the cojones to move through the world with love....while "carrying"!

Yeah T.E, I do.

But then again, I'm white, in my late 50's, dress conservatively, and have had enough LEO's as friends over the years that have no "awe" of them and could walk straight up to a cop and ask directions while packing an unregistered pistol and two switchblades (not that I ever do) and not get "hinky", so it really doesn't take that much in the way of stones for me to carry my Spyderco Native, or even my Shabaria. On the other hand, if I were 20, black, working my tail off to get a college education, and forced to choose between wearing the uniform of today's youth or not fitting in with my peers, I might just decide that carrying even the most sheeple friendly Case slip-joint was not worth the risk.

I'm a bit confused too, since I would be surprised if most of the people here did not carry steel every day.

Unless I am going to one of the few places that expressly prohibits firearms (post office, hospital, etc.) I never leave the house without at least a pair of folders and a handgun. Unless I am getting onto an airplane I still carry the folders.

I Can't carry a firearm, and would never be given a permit to, since i have no valid reason for packing iron.

So, i compensate with a large folder. Every day. I Never leave home without a knife. Ever since grade school. And, it's gotten me in trouble on a few occasions with LEOs who believed i had no business with one, as if a knife has a single purpose, that being a weapon.

Been a long time since those days however, and a knife still remains a trusted friend.

Sorry that NY is still dealing with it that way. More and more states are adopting "shall issue" policies on concealed carry permits. Texas didn't ask me why I wanted the license; they just verified that I wasn't a felon or schizophrenic and that I had passed their firearm certification tests.

NYC is a different animal, but most of New York state is "discretionary" in that it depends wildly on the local judge. I had no trouble getting a carry permit in the county where I lived when I got my permit, but the one in which I live now would have been impossible.

Oh, and if yer gonna "carry steel every day," do it with style. ;)
