Dr. Lathe,

Chalk one vote from me up for liking the looks of rag micarta. I am going to ask around at my next club meeting and if I can locate any source I will let you know.

Neil,
I have just finished a drop point hunter with rag micarta and I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. I have had the scales ( from K&G I think) for a few years and never had the opportunity to try it, until a customer saw it and insisted on it. I just looked in my latest Texas Knifemaker's cat. and it's not listed there. Check with K&G
Good Luck,
Mike

I have a piece that Kit Carson gave to me. I spent some time sanding it to see what I could get it to do and it always looks like crap. There must be a trick to it that I am not getting. Any tips on how to finish this stuff?

Does anyone have a pic of a knife with rag micarta ? I´ve never used it so I´m curious to see what it looks like.

Neil-

I'm not sure that it's being made anymore. I saw a picture somewhere recently of a knife slabbed in rag-micarta and it was very attractive.

I've checked K&G, Jantz, Koval, and TKS with no luck. But you could always call them up and see if they can point you in the right direction.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Nick

A.T. Barr has a nice big clip point pictured on his website IIRC it had rag micarta scales. Really cool looking.

I forgot to mention that I called Sheffield's and they can't find it either. They told me they saw a new knife with it too and it was listed as a Canadian maker.

So the only thing I can think of is maybe Masecraft or some of the Canadian suppliers.

My last piece. Sorry the pic doesn't show the detail better. The current issue of Cutting Edge shows a Loveless Big Bear with Rag Micarta Scales - $18,000. Mine cost somewhat less than that...

Sorry Neil, that knife was made for Mr.G here on BladeForums. It's a one and only and never again I'm afraid.

BTW, it was great meeting and talking with you at the Blade Show.

Well, considering its rarity and the fact that I need the money, I would be willing to let my piece of rag Micarta go to the highest bidder. It is 1/4" thick tapering down to about 3/4 of that thickness, about 1" wide and 8" long. Let's start bidding at $100,000, shall we?

I did a search on dogpile and found several companies that just list an e-mail address. This site claims to sell to individuals www.ecomplastics.com probaly have to talk to a human to see if they have any. I also found Decorative Products Division Hampton SC 29974 1-800-845-4793 comm@ipaper.com It was a link from another site, said they have everything in Micarta. Hope this helps.

Chiro,
OK, but I will still need another piece for the other side of the knife

Tom,
If the handle on Jerrys knife was made for Matt Draper, I could get a few knife handles out of it!!
