I have an affinity for stockmans and have seen the rail splitter before including the three blade variety with a clip main, and sheepsfoot and spey secondary blades and with the exception of the shape of the handle in the middle looks like a stockman variation to me. Is it? Where does it get the name from? Thanks.

You may want to post this to the real expert Mr. Bernard Levine. The railsplitter like other three blade patterns did come from and is related to the cattle/stock knife of patterns like the sowbelly. Mr. Levine would be able to tell you a lot more and I'll just put my foot in my mouth if I haven't already.

The only railsplitter that I have any experience with is my RAT railsplitter. I thought it was just the name of the knife itself, not a type of stockman. I am interested to see what Mr Levine might say.
