Well, Karen and I have returned to the furnace and had an absolutely wonderful time. As it turned out, all your prayers were heard and the car was fixed and back on the road by 0930 hrs. :D :D The catalytic converter went bad  but now it runs like a champ again.

We had rain and record breaking.....102 in Denver......temps. The rain was a lot of fun. Even a tornado warning to make life real exciting..... My middle son and his fiance joined us for the weekend and we all had a fun time talking, laughing and shopping.....well and lots of eating too....so much for the diet. Back to that tomorrow. :barf:

I can tell you that driving all over the western half of this country this summer has been a real blast. Every place has a beauty of it's own. I do believe the next trip up north will be via the back roads through the Rocky Mountains. And my next vacation is going to be exploring the meteor crater and the petrified forest up in northern Arizona. Then up to the Grand Cave-in and back over to explore the territory around Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Of course, that will be next year, I'm traveled out for a few months. Glad to be back home and hope to be back to normal in a day or 2.....  ;)

Gin:

Very pleased to hear the trip went well after the initial blip.

Don't forget Bryce Canyon in Utah. Much more beautiful than Grand Canyon, IMO. The GC is simply just too big to comprehend. You stand there looking at it, and it looks like a painting or something.

Glad you had a safe trip!
I've driven over a lot of the country. The east coast, and most of I-80 from NYC all the way to Reno. Around many of the Great Lakes. Future plans include a South Cali to Vancouver trip, and the southwest. And one of these days I'm going to see Mt. Rushmore (it ain't goin nowhere!)
The trips you have planned sound fantastic!!

Glad to hear it all, Gin. AZ still has a lot you haven't seen, you know, once you get off the beaten path, so don't count it out on your next trip.

That meteor crater is a sight! Truly a big ol' hole, it's what we all were aiming for when we started digging holes in the backyard til Mom caught us.

Below is a pic from a trip some friends and I took to the GC years back. I was in the service at the time, and thought I was in pretty good shape, but the hike down and back up was the worst ruck march I ever went on. I think the altitude was what got me, I was good on the way down, and for the first 1/2-3/4 of the way up, but then I just about cashed in my chips, thought I was gonna have a grabber right there on the trail!

And yeah that's me, and no, there wasn't much below me for quite a ways, yeah, I was pretty dumb back then.
