Well the bura AK arrived :D :D

but i couldn't have it untill i gave a cheque to 'parcel force' for VAT, import duty and handling charges :( :( Thats +17.5%tax, £4(~$6)duty and £10(~$15) fees.

that put a dampner on its arrival.

out of interest, what percentage tax would you pay in the US? The reason i ask is that a UK recipient wouldn't have to pay anything this end if they'd have paid the US tax and export duty, which could be less.

It is beautiful though ;) That pic i've been looking at didn't do it justice at all!

In answer to that thread " how does ur khuk balance" that i've been dying to post an answer in - it leans to the side a bit at its balance point.

Now, there is a bit of a gripe - the point at the top of the buttcap is bent and the handle chipped off about 5mm from the point. I know it was a PGA and i got money off, but no blem was mentioned. it doesn't look like its there in the picture, so is this an issue i can take up with Parcel Force? The box was a bit battered and i noticed it had a 'USPS insured mail' sticker.

I'm off to test it in the hills :) i got a british army machete to show it off against :)

Bill wouldn't ship the blade in that condition without acknowledgement. It happened in shipping...or?

How big is the handle on your AK? I ask because my BAS chipped where you mention and I ground the tip off and smoothed the very slight triangle of missing horn. The BAS now fits my hand whereas before it did not. It no longer sticks my hand. I almost got rid of it before this modification.

small touches sometimes....

Punker, I'm the cynical paranoid type so I envision some customs agent pulling your blade out after Xray and playing with it until it dropped.

What is ska?

yeah, that crosseed my mind because there is no fragment of bone in the box... they opened up the newspaper with a knife and theres a slight scratch on the scabbard - but that dissapeared with a bit of polish.

heh, ska is a jamacan influenced offbeat genre of music. think 'the police'-Rocksteady, or Madness, umm know the mightymighty bosstones, less than jake?. mix it with punk ahnd there you have it.

good idea about grinding the handle, though i'm not sure i've got the right equipment to be able to do it :( what would i need?

I used a belt sander and gave it a light touch. I bet you could do do by hand with some sandpaper taped to a table. Hold the handle and draw it across at the angle you want. Fine paper. I only had to take a tiny bit away and now the thing fits great. I really love it. Just squared it off and polished with some steel wool. looks production to me. Ihaven't even done it to the other tip for symetry..

another idea would be to bend the tip back to original postion and fill the missing horn with epoxy. My BAS tip was the up side sticking into my hand; if yours is 'down' and not in the way, maybe filling is best.

Is this the small Ak (15-16") that makes a difference in handle size.

YOu lost me on the music. Too old at 46 to get it. I like blues and folk, various things now. Still disgusted by the events of 30 years ago when 'they' sold us Disco instead of Reggae...I mean, if you had to leave RockNRoll, at least Reggae...
Yep, I think the downfall of qualtiy of life in America started in the 70's.

Munk,
You're too young to remember, but the REAL rock 'n roll was killed by the British Invasion in the 60's. Been all downhill ever since!

..yah, I know...John Lennon used to like Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis...I remember thinking; "sure John, whatever you say"...The Beatles for Christakes..greatest RockNRoll band ever.

just my opinion but I'm right

Both my BAS and my villager came with bent/dented buttcaps. I figured that was part of the fun of getting a handmade beauty. Wouldn't want it to perfect - my friends would start thinking I was a collector or something.

okay i'm glad you've all had mail-damaged items!!! well...at least it makes me feel like one of the crowd ;)

I might still try to get something back from parcel force. It'll teach the money grabbing so and so's.

ah well i like a lot of blues like you old time American dudes too - my Dad brought me up on it. It just doesn't ring my bell like some upbeat trumpet fuelled punk ska :)

okay its been explained to me that i don't need too much in the way of power tools to sort the handle (top side) because "brass is only as hard as cheese"!!!!

it still is a beaut. It has so much character! do the funny letters on the top of the spine spell H I ?

The only thing that I got damaged during shipment was the sheet of newsprint with the saucy Nepali females on them. Customs cut open the package and resealed it with their fancy packing tape. :(

wow i wish i got fanci Nepali newspaper. Then even the packaging would be worth showing off. i just got the motoring section - wanna chevvy tracker for 14,995? :D

Somebody just posted a pix of a box that looked pretty beat up when it arrived. And there's the one that had fork lift tracks on it.

wow! thats outrageous.

Do you know if the majority of these damages were with regular post or your special delivery? maybe its worth reccomending the expensive version for the safety of the khuks!

I should tell you Punker, I damaged the BAS by myself without help from the mail. The buttcap started to slip away a little from the handle and I tried to pop it a little tighter. I struck the edge too hard and bent it and chipped the handle. Turned out for the best, though.

the larger blades have bigger handles it seems and the cap points don't stick in my hand.

I believe it was N2 who drew the Khuk design with a single piece of steel. That would solve the inherrent weakness of handles.
