Unless i missed it ....i haven't seen a comment about the Raindrop offerings as of late.

I dig it! Some look like lightning strikes. Maybe it should be named "Storm " Damascus.

I've seen them, and while some are pretty cool looking, most do not look like the traditional raindrop pattern. Kind of bugs me that its produced.

What's produced? Raindrop overall, or the newer pattern?

For good raindrop, you have to go back quite a few months (in my opinion). Oddly, the new basketweave is pretty sharply defined.

I like raindrop but really only on smaller knives, it looks too busy or larger blades, IMO. Ladder is a better choice for those I think. I have a "piano pair" of Mnandis in raindrop and I am very happy with those. :) The other raindrop style patterns like "bubble wrap" and "typhoon" look good as well, I think perhaps bubble wrap would actually be my first choice if I was given one.

Good call about the busy look for larger knives Haze, I have to agree with you. I love the look of the basketweave, that will be my next Damascus CRK. As for the raindrop, it varies from what I have seen and I prefer ladder, herringbone, or basketweave over it.

I think it looks really nice in real life ... and it has a lot of contrast as opposed to the previous iteration.

Love it when Serg pulls out that spaulted BE burl. Its twin (not identical, but twin) sister screams to me to pull her out to join the party.

At first I didn't like the "new" raindrop look. Now, I have just come to think of it as "different" ... not worse, just different. I do, however, think that this newer version looks better on larger blades than the old variation. The other thing that kept gnawing at me (initially) was that it looked more like the raindrop that Chad Nichols produces, in that it had that more random, fuzzy appearance. The LionSteel SR1 below has Nichols raindrop.

I have had several Ladder Damascus sebenzas and never warmed up to it. I much prefer Raindrop. I always wanted a Spirograph, but missed out on it. I only have HC Damascus in raindrop and mosaic Damascus at the moment, no SS, which I prefer.

I like them both but I think it takes more effort to make it this way.

Damascus is a funny animal, they're all so different but You Know which ones calling your name when you see it and forget what you were doing.

I prefer the look the raindrop Damascus on those two burls, more flowing than straight drops. I've actually never been a big fan of RD Damascus. I wish Chris would contact Chad Nichols about his SS Damascus.
