my older son had a friend spend the night on friday night, and with our house being so small it's hard to avoid each other, so while they were blasting rap music and playing video games in the living room, i decided to head into the garage and bend some leather.. we have been getting a bunch of rain here lately, and we all have been getting a little stir crazy.. i haven't done any leatherwork for a while now... i finished most of it on friday and ended up dying and sealing it on saturday..

anyhow on to some pics...

i made this sheath for a David Farmer "tribal utility" knife, that i scored recently.. it's my 3rd one in the last month actually...:27: i love it.. if you're not familiar with David's work, he's a really cool guy and makes some of the sharpest knives i have used/owned.. they're insane, and affordable too...

i decided to make this one sort of a new school Sami-style sheath.. i really like the free mobility you have with the dangler style sheath's..

it's 8 0z. veg. tanned leather.. wet formed and dyed in med. brown Fiebings dye.. then sealed with bee's wax..

it's been cold here lately, and i find this style of sheath , very easy to access, when having to wear lots of layers..

the wet form on this one turned out nice and solid, i am stoked... the knife locks in tight, with a loud kydex like sound...

Looks awesome Mike! When you taking orders???

Weren't you in Yakima WA for a while? or maybe I am thinking about a different mike (Wild mike maybe?)

When you do the bees wax seal, are you using a jar of the soft stuff you spread on the knife or do you actually melt it in a "hot dip" pot or something?

I have neatsfoot oil, a bees wax rub, and atom wax, and have not figured out a perfect combo yet.

The Atom wax gets put on at the end, and really puts a hard shine on the leather.

that wasn't me in Yakima.. must have been Wild Mike.. though i do have family in Yakima.. it's a wild spot..

as far as beeswax goes.. i am using the soft stuff in the jar.. i heat up both the wax and sheath with a hair dryer, rub it in and then heat it up again, to soak it in.. it comes out nice and shiny..

cheers.. Mike

That's a nice sheath...for a great knife! Looks like its got great retention too! Well done! I just love the look and feel of custom leather! BTW, what's the blade length on that tribal? 4" -4 1/2"??

many thanks.. the retention came out great on this one.. i'm stoked.. it's in there nice and snug.. clicks in and out too...:)

the blade length on this one is just a hair under 4 in.. this knife is just too cool.. i can't stop from wanting to use it.. it feels perfect in the hand..

here's a few other David Farmer "tribal utility's"..:D

- 4 in. belt knife.
- 3 3/4 in. utility.
- a "MDTT" necker/scalpal like knife.
