It finally happened to me, I was going about my daily business as usual and quite unexpectedly got teleported to the woods with nothing but these items. Well ok not really, only anonymous internet people are lucky enough to get into those situations, but I did do a little rainy time fire practice just in case I'm one of the lucky chosen one day.
First up are the supplies. 3" Blade JK EDC, 2 NATO lifeboat matches and the striker.
It's been raining for a few days.
First order of business for starting a fire in these conditions was finding some fat lighter. This should do.
Found some fairly dry wood hanging out of a tree, here it is busted up into splittable pieces.
Here's a pic batonning the larger piece with my little knife, also batonned through pine knots, this little knife is a tough one.
Ok so I use a match and get the fire going, it's alot of work trying to keep this going. Just can't quite get it to sustain itself, maybe I should've spent a bit more time on preparing the fire.
It went out, ok I've got the cure for that, more fatlighter. Went and found this big knot of it. I split and cut it all up until I had a big pocket full of kindling and shavings.
Finally got my self sustaining fire. This exercise was alot of fun, gave me more confidence in my ability to start fires especially in inclimate weather.
