It finally happened to me, I was going about my daily business as usual and quite unexpectedly got teleported to the woods with nothing but these items. Well ok not really, only anonymous internet people are lucky enough to get into those situations, but I did do a little rainy time fire practice just in case I'm one of the lucky chosen one day.

First up are the supplies. 3" Blade JK EDC, 2 NATO lifeboat matches and the striker.

It's been raining for a few days.

First order of business for starting a fire in these conditions was finding some fat lighter. This should do.

Found some fairly dry wood hanging out of a tree, here it is busted up into splittable pieces.

Here's a pic batonning the larger piece with my little knife, also batonned through pine knots, this little knife is a tough one.

Ok so I use a match and get the fire going, it's alot of work trying to keep this going. Just can't quite get it to sustain itself, maybe I should've spent a bit more time on preparing the fire.

It went out, ok I've got the cure for that, more fatlighter. Went and found this big knot of it. I split and cut it all up until I had a big pocket full of kindling and shavings.

Finally got my self sustaining fire. This exercise was alot of fun, gave me more confidence in my ability to start fires especially in inclimate weather.

Good to see an older knife still in use. Could you direct me to the post on BCUSA?

Is that a clip point on that EDC, always liked the look of that one. Great job the fire, just in time to I hear those teleportation systems are nearly up and running, :)

Hi machine -

Nice! Love the JK, and great job starting the fire - a skill you need if you are going to survive.

JK's knives are definitely knives you can count on - not going to see one of these break off at the tang!

That's the truth, mqqn. I've done things to my JK camp knife that would void most manufacturers warranties and it shrugs it all off lol.

That EDC looks good in a clip point, and wet fire practice is something most of us could use (I know I do).

Wet fire practice is very important if you spend anytime away from civilization IMO. I don't do it enough either, that's actually the first time I can think of starting a fire while the rain is coming down.

Speaking of the knife I agree, I love clip points. Some guy ordered this one and then decided not to buy it for whatever reason, his loss. Here's another pic, my favorite "around town" EDC combo. I'd like to have a black kydex pancake sheath made for this blade though, maybe I'll invest in one soon.

Nice post machine, congrats on getting the fire going.
You definitely can't go wrong with fat lighter (or fat wood) in wet conditions.
Love the knife too,someone else's loss,your gain.

Email sent about a sheath.I can make it if you can cover shipping.
