Just don't get out as often as I'd like, but some friends booked the local Sierra-Club Hiker's Hut for the weekend and invited the family to partake.
About a 3 mile hike through what they call a heritage redwood forest to get there. Turns out there are only a few heritage sequoias. Most of it is 100 year old second-growth, replanted after SF was rebuilt following the '06 quake.
Sorry about the loss of pixels.
Partly it was the rain, but mostly I take crappy photos and my daughter with skilz was too wet to help.
It was a very wet weekend indeed.
Several California Newts on the way up:
Bucks hanging out just above the hut.
Does a little farther down:
Gorgeous sunset:
Wife was bummed when she first saw this sign!
Carried the D2 Enzo Trapper with epoxied stabilized buckeye scales due to the water.
Used the 62 for kitchen duties once safely inside.
Trudging through the forest, when we came to one of the huge old trees, invariably the phone wouldn't respond to my wet fingers - so no shots of those. And just before arriving at the cabin we were hit with a torrential downpour, so I didn't get that either.
All in all, a most successful trip. The kids hardly complained. Enjoyed awesome home-cooked meals - chili, fudge, and breakfast burritos. Had a roaring fire in the wood-burning stove. Made some new friends, and had a great time with some old ones.
