Last Christmas I gave one daughter a Victorinox Waiter and the other a Bantam. The youngest carries her Bantam everywhere on her key chain. About a week ago she was looking for a cork screw to borrow and take to a friend's house. She usually drinks beer. I can't recall her ever drinking wine. I asked her if she wanted a Waiter like her sister had in trade for her Bantam. Found a Waiter on line for $9.99 with $5.80 priority mail. The Waiter arrived yesterday, so I'll trade her knives this evening.

 :)

Have given my daughter several SAKs including a Swiss Champ and a couple of Pioneers. My grandson sends me pics of his "collection" (a future BF member I'm sure) and he's talked me out of several since he sent me this pic.

He is getting an 80's NOS Frontier Powderhorn Trapper for his birthday.

My Granddaughters like Classics and each has been gifted several of those over the years.

Every girl/lady can use a good SAK. As a mom I have used the scissors and knife on mine to open many packages, cut holes for a straw, trim strings and nails, and even peel an apple in a pinch.

Victorinox holds an annual design competition for a Classic Special Edition.

Some of the proposed designs are "girl friendly."

I like this award winner and I will buy one if it goes on sale:

Victorinox sold out this 2013 Special Edition, but you can still buy them online. It is called Blue Mist.

Some of the Classic Special Editions are promoted to Victorinox's permanent collection. You will recognize many old favorites.

Looks like your Grandson is off to a great start!

Several years back I got a bit vexed at some non knife members of the family. It was a regular "Hey Carl, lemme see your knife," kind of thing. Never would carry one on their own. So Christmas I got a whole bunch of Classic's for stocking stuffers for the non kife family members. My bright idea was, that if it was small enough to go unnoticed on the keyring, then they would never leave home with no knife on them. Right?

So out of the classics that Christmas, about 3/4's of them made it to the keyring. Of that, about half the non knife family members became knife people, making sure they always had at least the SAK with them. I heard a lot less of the "Hey Carl, lemme see your knife."

Some of the new knife carrying family went on to carry bigger SAK's. Cousin Barbara loves her Vic camper in her hiking daypack, and cousin Scott is now carrying a mini champ that phased out his little classic that lasted five years. He gave the classic to his son, Sam, to carry.

I guess that's some sort of victory for the knife crowd.

My approach was similar, and with interesting results. In one family of friends, father and daughter became converts, while 2 sons and wife did not. Another family, daughter knifed up. She was thrilled, because earlier I had gifted her father and brother with SAKs. She had always wanted one, while parents and son had said thank you and put them away (Dad is a Brit, so expectations with him were slim, anyway :( .) My eleven year old nephew, a new Boy Scout, opened up his present of bundled Tinker/Classic and became a knifeknut on the spot, so my brother tells me. Firefighter friend EDCs the Leatherman I sent him as a birthday gift. Brother in law, an engineer, was a dead loss despite two attempts (Christmas, birthday a few years apart.) Of those plus several other relatives and friends, who pretty well have an idea by now of what I am going to get them on gift occasions ;) , I reckon a 20% conversion rate. Not bad for missionary work. Maybe I should go into the ministry :D .
