I have in my hands what appears to be an 18" GRS. It's 19-1/2" OAL and 31oz. It is definitely has the mark of Rajkumar from the research I've done thus far. Is this a desirable piece? It's most definitely unused and the asking price seems to good to be true. It's really beautifully done. Thanks for any assistance.

Rajkumar is a highly respected kami who is no longer with HI. He did some highly decorated, artistic pieces for HI, but I believe he is making jewelry these days.

If your main purpose is to get a definite identification of the piece, you should find a way to post pictures, preferably both sides.

I'm not sure it's legitimate to ask about prices in this subforum. That borders on buying and selling, which is reserved for the Exchange. You could send an email to Yangdu and ask about a comparable GRS, though it wouldn't be by Rajkumar.

I really wasn't asking for a price. However, you did answer my question whether it is desirable or not. I appreciate your input. Hopefully my first attempt with Photobucket will be successful.

Well,.... I got the pictures uploaded on Photobucket. However, when I attempt to attach them here, it states I'm not allowed. Still working on it.

Thank you Bookie. It really is beautiful. The woodwork and finish on the handle is impeccable too. However, I believe all my HI Khukuri's are beautiful as well.

Nice GRS! Definitely Rajkumar. Thats his twin peaks mark and the Devanagari says Rajkumar as well. Yep last i heard he was making jewelry. HI tried to get him back at one time but he must be doing better doing other things. He sure made some killer swords. That is a very nice large beasty piece. The larger ones are even more rare. If you got it for less than a couple hundred bucks minimum id say you did well. Im sticking my neck out too but I have heard moderators talk about prices of retired Kamis like Bura for example just in a general sense. His blades will be worth store prices and then some is my general opinion. Hes good! Grats!

I thought that these recent GRS were unusually small, but I guess the one that I have, which is 22 1/2" and 48 ounces, is unusually large? I acquired it from another forumite, and it was made by Get kami around 2007, to the best of my knowledge.

Moparsbob, take what I say with a grain of salt since I'm a newbie. The GRS comes in two sizes as other Khukuri's come in various sizes. The current GRS are listed at 18" at approximately two pounds and a 22" that runs around 3 pounds. In and of itself yours seems to be spot on weight wise for the 22" model. I think what dog was inferring, although I could be wrong, is the larger versions of Khukuri knives by Rajkumar are more sought after. As to say if both of ours were by Rajkumar, your 22" version would be more desirable than an 18" like mine. However, it's late and I'm getting punchy and quite sure someone will correct any errors on my behalf.

Well I can say that one of my first blade request from HI was a 22" GRS and at that time Rajkumar was a regular. I had to wait almost two years before any sizable Ganga Ram came up for sale and it was 18". I wanted a 22" period. I might have missed one but I was a pretty relentless shark at that time. Kinda old and cartilage is getting kinda stiff nowadayz but I have yet to see anything over 18" (other than a very special earthquake donation). My memory might be escaping me but they are definitely rare. Other Kamis may have made them Lachhu for example or even Bhakta but I just dont recall anything in the last few years over 18" and i been watching. All I know is it was number one on my list and I didnt get one and to this day I still want one. If its the blade you want you struck gold! Enjoy it! Im figuring that 19" is really an advertised 18" but just happened to be a bit over. Just a wild guess?

I agree, it's an 18" version that was made a bit over. Otherwise, it would be much heavier. IMHO anyway. I have the 20" 45oz. Bonecutter offered a while back and a 20" CAK on order with Auntie. They run close enough to three pounds, don't need another. For once in my life I can honestly be happier with the smaller of the two GRS's. I often think about Umi with his 25" 67oz AK. No thanks even though it's a beauty and admired by all with blade lust.

Yep 25" CAK aint something id take to the field all day thats for sure. I have a 20" Super CAK back when Bhakta was making them. At one time there was no one to make the bonecutters so they decided to make the 20" Super CAK instead and mine is one of those. Its about as heavy as I want to use for any period of time. It sure gets the job done. No question about it. You will like your 20" beast! Pics when it comes please. I waited for a 22" Bonecutter for a few years and never saw one come up for sale so I got a 20 AK instead. Now I have a 20" AK and 20" CAK but no BC or GRS. Someday:rolleyes:

No problem dog, I'll be posting more pictures now since Scara helped work me through the steps on how. I know several things well, apparently somethings not so well. Heck, I still prefer film cameras over digital. Nowadays almost anyone can take a great picture if they can compose, with film not so much, I prefer the chalange.

Oh heck yeah. I love film camera (35mm and Medium format). I prefer completely manual. I know my shutter speeds and F-stops like second nature. Theres a lot of things you can do that smart cameras cannot figure out. I had a Nikonos III underwater camera I bought in 1974 I used until just a few years ago. It melted down in a house fire. Sure miss it. Anywaz...Glad you got it figured out. Its not too hard just time consuming. Once you get a gazillion photos uploaded then its pretty cool to be able to reference them from wherever you are in the world.
