Got my new Rake in today and been playing around with it some. Yeah it's pretty big and heavy. mine weighed 5.5 oz on my scales. But it's very solid and well made. Love the blade shape and the D2. Should be great for skinning deer and not so big that I couldn't EDC it some.

One thing though, it doesn't snap shut when I get the blade almost closed. All the rest of my Kershaws (and other knives) snap theirselves shut when they get about a 1/4" from closing. Is this common to the Rake or a defect?

I don't have one, but I can offer this: some of the bigger bladed SpeedSafe knives are tuned differently than the smaller ones, so they don't fire as hard. Conversely, they don't snap shut like you are mentioning.
My guess is its OK...just use it for a while and if there are problems you really want addressed, contact Kershaw.

The blade gets held in closed by the torsion bar, much like a Leek, Shallot, or Knockout. So when the blade is folded into the handle, it doesn't have that snap of the ball when it nests into the detent hole in the blade since there isn't one.

OK. It's not like it wants to just fall open or anything, but you can raise the blade 1/8" and it just stays there. Guess it's just made that way. Thanks guys.

None of my Speedsafes really snap shut, just kinda settle into place due to the torsion bar. This is from my Offset to the Centofante.

Gotta admit I don't know much about the inner workings on these. Guess I was comparing it to my Blur, which is my only other speedsafe. Thanks everybody. Yall (yes, that's a word here) probably saved me from sending it back. :o
