I was going back home for the Fourth of July, and since "back home" isn't far from Ray Kirk's place, I thought I ought to go by and pick up one of his neck knives.

First of all, I was very impressed by the man. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. His knives were all very nice, and reasonably priced. I settled on the Little Blue 2 because of its sharpness and the nice temper line on the 52100 blade, my favorite blade steel by the way.

The finish is excellent, the grind lines absolutely perfect, and the kydex sheath fits just right.

I don't believe I have ever bought a knife, production or custom, that came with an edge like this one, and I like to think I am something of an afficionado of sharp. I bought the knife to use, as I like to carry a neck knife, and this one is my new favorite, a veritable scalpel.

One nice touch is the elk hide thong with the brass bead adjustment. A nice change from the usual parachute cord.

If you plan on getting a Raker knife, I would advise getting one soon. Word is going to get around, and demand is going to drive his prices up.

Couldn't aagree more the LB2 is a great knife. Have had it for over a year and a half and it has been my most carried knife in that time. It gets killer sharp holds it for a long time and is easy to sharpen. A steal at double the price.

It's great to see Ray getting more and more of the recognition he deserves, both as a talented maker and the good man he is.

I have four of Ray's knives, including two of the Little Blue/Little Blue 2 versions. (I won't tell you how they got that name. ;))

Ray puts a mean edge on all of his knives as evidenced by his winning two of the latest cutting contests hosted by the American Bladesmith Society.

We'll be hearing a lot more from Ray as time goes on, and it won't be too long before he joins the ranks of master smiths in my opinion.
