I just received the new A.G. Russell Spring '99 catalog and saw some great looking knives by Ralph Freer. Both knives are 3-5/8" closed, with 2-3/4" drop-point satin finished ATS-34 blades, liner locks, and filework on the spine of the blade. One Macassar Ebony scales with a rainbow anodized titanium liner. The other has stabilized Spalted Maple scales with a rainbow liner. Both knives are gorgeous.

Has anyone heard of this maker or have any experience with him? I searched A.G.'s site, as well as BF but failed to find any information. Thanks in advance.

Ralph makes great knives, from great tacticals, to beautiful art peices. I own a knife of his that was ground from a file, and it is one hard worker! I am webmaster for his website. Check out www.angelfire.com/ca2/customknives/index.html The main page is of Jef Hall knives, who learned the craft from Ralph. There is a link at the bottom for Freer knives. Email jeff if you have any questions. Should have more pics up on the site soon too.

Relative to Ralph Freer, he has been featured off and on in Knives Illustrated for years, and has advertised with us. Check out our upcoming August edition (available early in June) and you'll see a how-to he worked on with me (Ralph did most of the work). His knives are very nice. As stated above, Jeff Hall learned the ropes from Ralph. In fact, we will be featuring some of Jeff's folders in our October issue. Like to give new guys a shot in the arm when they deserve it, and Jeff does. He's creating some very nice folding knives at reasonable prices.
