RAM with different clothes ? What do ya think ?

I bought my first RAM last week.

I admit I was not turned on by the pics when I saw it was released , I was not sure about the lock and the little thumb 'studs' looked funny.

It was not until I had in my mitts and started to work it that I appreciated what a badass knife this is !

The flipping action is enough to make anyone stand up and take notice, it flips like an AO without the A and locks up tight , not a smidgen of blade play in any direction , this is one fine knife.

Last night though I was thinking how awesome it would be if the G10 was in a different color , like olive drab , or dark red , or even dark grey.

Imagine your RAM , if you own one , with different clothes on ? Wouldnt that be the tops ?

:D:D:D

also , OT here but mine says "First production 1 of 500" I am wondering if it means the first production of 499 more prodcutions ? Can anyone clarify this ?

Hey Rebel,
Glad you're happier than you thought you'd be with the RAM. Definitely a badass flipper and just about the smoothest pivot you've ever seen!! I love the idea of different colored scales.

As far as your 1 of 500 goes, yes, all 500 from the first run say "1 of 500". Unfortunately, the rest of 'em don't say 2 of 500, 3 of 500, and so on. :D

It WOULD be nice to someday have a number 1 numbered knife. I have several numbered sprint runs and what not, but no number 1's. I do have what Thomas told me was the very first Composite blade Leek to come off the assembly line (which I won in one of his many AWESOME contests:thumbup:), but alas the blade has no number 1 on it, so I have no proof!!, until Thomas mails me that certificate of authenticity!!;)

Enjoy the RAM!
Jon

Funny you just posted this Rebel...I'm looking into making some OD green and black micarta slabs for the Boa.

I've built up a rather large pile of Kerhsaws, so I'm gonna start "modding" a few of the more common models. :D

i can tell you now, the red would look great with it! or maybe a blue. heck get a couple RAMs, and some various colors, and make a whole bunch!

Yep, I received my Ram Friday,it is one nice edc.
I love the click sound when opening,:p alsothe blade shape, and choil.are great.
I thinks I needs two

Thanks for the replies folks.

svrider3, wow I didnt think of one in CF , that would be really cool !! :)

SPXTrader - please post pics of what you do , I love knife modding and there's not enough attention payed to it on BF , IMO.

jonnymac44 - thx for the info ! Now my next question, lol... Is this something I should not modify because it may be valuable one day ? I mean as in collectible. I was planning on polishing the blade some and yeap , the pivot is veryyyyy smooth.

Bus Driver - it does make a quite satisfying 'click!' upon opening , what I like best about my RAM is that you can open it with a gentle flip , or a good wrist snap , the click is much beefier on a wrist snap.

I pine to snap it from time to time. :D:D

i have one of the "first production run 1 of 500" RAMs. i use it. its gonna be around for awhile, so if you dont want to mod it, then just get another. it could be worth something down the line, but i honestly dont know. i say go for it!

I seen some red carbon/kevlar composite that I think would
look stunning on this knife. If I get up the nerve, I may try it
sometime. If/when I do, and it turns out nice, I'll post some pics.

offsetlover - thx for the info ! I may just make the new scales , this way I wont fuss with the blade , and another one is an excellent idea. :D

svrider3 - whoa.. that sounds neat , got any pics ? How thin is it ?

Here's the link with the different sizes available.

They have tons of other stuff as well. Seems to be pretty fair priced also.

I am horrid on metric , how thin is .015 ? any idea on how thing the scales are on the RAM ?

Thanks for the link !

Ohhhh, that would look very nice on a RAM I gotta say. I have no skills at making scales of any type, but if someone does they should do this! I'd like the Orange/Kevlar please! :D

All I have to suggest is something bright to contrast the black aluminum. Red, orange, or even glow blue G-10 would all be pretty neat. Let us know what you choose....

.015 is standard. It's pretty thin. 4 layers at that thickness would give you
.06 in.
Mine measured out at .064 in. (1.63 mm)

I've never worked with CF but I was thinking on the idea of layering the
.015 using epoxy. On the non clip side you have the cut out(A) at the pivot
area so I was thinking of maybe 2 layers for that then 2 additional layers
on top(B) since I have no idea how to make that fine of a cut out.
Adding a little epoxy between layers should put it real close to the .064
measurement I got from my calipers.

So, whatcha think? Do you have an easier way of doing it because I would
really like to see that red carbon/kevlar on one of my RAMs.

PM me with any ideas, suggestions.

Cant PM , havent upgraded again yet.

Yea I saw that pivot area too , still thinking on how to execute that , one idea is just to have a circle there as the existing screws are enough to hold that scale in place , but would that make the pivot loose without that tiny bit of G10 there.... hmmm

Epoxy would work on those sheets , get a few of them , epoxy them lightly and clamp them heavily , I think that would work.
Or.. find some material in the original thickness of the existing scales.

Thanks for the measurements by the way.:)

A washer should make up the thickness nicely. :p

You will probably need to get a caliper to measure with. As far as that goes, 1/4" = .025 so 1/8" would be half of that at .0125, not far from the .015 it comes in.
