I know, done to death - not very 'topical' to some - but... I just watched R3, with my first ever full viewing of R1 & R2 being in the last few weeks. Yeah, my kids grew up with 'Rambo' toys - I'm nearly sixty - just missed these classics. My cinema education will not progress beyond 'Rocky I', however...
Watching the first two, I believe the knife was nearly the same - but the R3 knife seems to have changed size in the movie itself, and perhaps from the first two. Gil Hibben was listed as the Kentucky knifemaker in the credits. Who did the first two Rs? In talking with John Greco at the AGCA show last month in Birmingham, I found that he did work for/with the knifemaker who did the early Rs until his death in '92(?) - and later obtained some unfinished knives, which he finished and had at the show. Yeah, I should have sprung for one of those.
Anyway, who did the first two Rambo knives - and the fourth one? I guess I'll be awaiting R4's DVD release - I'll bet it will cost more than the 'special' Target had of $15.99 for R1-3. It will be interesting to see how he attaches his knife's sheath to his walker... and whether he still has explosive tipped arrows for his compound bow. Maybe they are suction cups and a longbow now.
The R3 movie was filmed in Israel - and some of the territory may have looked familiar, as another Afghani-war flick was filmed there in '88 as well - the excellent tank-film, "The Beast", with a thin George Dzundza and the blond Baldwin brother. Well, anyhow, I am nearly up to date... now where is my son's Rambo 'copter, etc?? Oddly, he is a pilot now - corporate captain (fixed wing). Thanks for any help re the knifemakers.
