One afternoon when I was in Nepal, I visited the shop run by Sgt. Khadka's
nephew, Ramsaran. He has a shop located in Koteswor and has a reputation
for making excellent meat cutters for the local butcher-man. He is also well-
known for making ceremonial knives.

When I was there, he was busy making the meat cutter, Gowa Churi, for the
Dashain festival. I watched him and his helper make the Gowa Churi and I
felt that I just had to get one and bring it home for the lucky forumite who
buys it first. So I bought one.

This amazing knife cuts meat like no other I've ever seen. I've seen it used
in a local meat shop and was really impressed by the job it does. Ramsaran
makes his own knife a bit beefier in size. It will easily slice ribs or other meat.

I will post this amazing knife on the sales thread now and the first one to
buy it gets it. As always with one-of-a-kind products, it is first come, first
served.

14 inches at 43 ounces, that is one hell of a butcher's cleaver! Nice high flat grind should give a thin enough edge though.

Is it just me or that's a stick tang BC?

BC? bonecutter? not quite leafy enough on those right side models, but they are outstanding nonetheless. love those sheaths too :) that would be take a nice stain. better to use non-steel for the bands - brass? silver? sweet.

and those blade on the left, if i'm not mistaken, the edge is on the right side in the picture, they're hook blades, almost like ginuntings. awesome. where are the zombies? those are perfect looking.
 
I'm a cook and I rarely work with anything larger than subprimals. That being said, I still want to own and use this knife. What's the edge on it like, is it too fine for rough chores, or was it sharpened as more of a general purpose knife? Would it 8-cut chicken through the bone without chipping the edge, or is it a dedicated meat slicer?

I'm tempted to put myself in a little bit o' debt for this blade. :(

Welcome to the forum.

I've seen a regular khukuri used to cut chicken, bones and all, in the hills in Nepal. No damage to the khukuri. It was a bit unusual to my western sensibilities to eat chicken like that. I got used to it soon enough.
 
Email sent. I would hate myself for not trying to get this blade.

No doubt a most khukri will make short work of poultry, but this is an unfamiliar kind of knife to me so I felt the need to ask. But I think I'll take the plunge and undoubtably find a use for this knife. It looks fantastic. :D:D

I said the same thing when I saw that pic, my heart skipped a beat! A raw villager stick tang Bonecutter hybrid something or other! Judging from the width of the blade at the bolster, that is probably a beast of a chopper! And with the stick tang it should be a healthy weight forward balance, just begging to chew some wood.

This is probably an example of a shop or individual kami having a certain style that comes out in many of their blades. Sgt Khadka's shop probably makes a few models that resemble the Bonecutter. I just wonder if they feel, behave and chop like one?

Oh yeah, wouldn't you love to stain that wooden sheath and put it on a display stand?!?

You just saved me some money. I'm thinking that would be a great cleaver for steaking salmon.

The handle is bare steel and it feels good on hand
