This is for all you Randall collectors, and people considering getting a Randall knife, don’t be afraid to use it.

Just wanted to share some pictures of some small work that I did with one of my newest Randalls, it’s a Model 16 SP#1, it has the same Blade profile of the Much Heralded Model 1-7, but it has a full Tang and some other nice option, namely Green Micarta Single finger Grooved handle, forward curved nickel silver hilt, Model C Waxed Sheath with no hone, and a very useful lanyard hole. There are many other options and choices when ordering direct from Randall (Which I did not, I have no interest in waiting 5 years) as with all their knives. The Blade Steel is forged 440 Stainless Steel, yes it is forged.

Went on a hike to day in Harrimon State Park, its in New York State, about 25 minutes north of Manhattan. And wanted to have some fun with my new blade. It was a cold and rainy morning, all the more fun to make a fire.

Before the trip, I blunted the sharpened back swedge with a coarse hone, so it wouldn’t chew up the baton that bad during woods work. Didn’t do anything crazy, chopped down some small dead trees and branches, de-limbed some branches, some light splitting, made Fuzz Sticks, and a little fire, Peeled an apple. Nothing too demanding, and as expected, the knife performed flawlessly, and honestly, it was just about as sharp after all this as before, their steel is darn good. It chopped great, extremely comfortable in my hand, and with a lanyard and the single finger groove, it really locked in my hand.

Just some pics that will hopefully inspire you to take out your Randalls out of your collections

looking pretty good, though im a little confused. I thought all of the Randall knives were made of O1, not 440ss

Thank you, most Randall knives models are available in both 440 Stainless and O1, some are only available in Stainless or O1 though.

?????????

You can actually use Randall knives?????

Hilarious,

It seems like most people are just collectors, but they are amazing knives, well deserving of their reputation

Although Soldiers around the world have been using them every Day, and hard since World War II, so I guess it's not just me

Nice write up and pics. I've never owned a Randall, but I will one day soon.

Slider817,not all Randall knives sit in safes. All of these get used, all have scratches on the blades, and the O-1 blades are stained.Nice knife you got there, don't that huge forward curved hilt get in the way though?

Willis,

I love to see used Randall's.

Thanks for the compliment, the forward curved hilt in my hand is more comfortable that the regular straight hilt of the no option Model 16 SP#1 and I also find it more comfortable the the standard hilt of a Model 1-7. Everyone is different, and the single finger groove changes the grip, so with a different handle configuration the forward curved hilt may not be as comfortable.

Obviously, the double hilt is not meant for skinning and carving, it a military style blade, but it looks great in my opinion and functions amazingly for how I use my big blades. If I am going hunting or fishing, or doing allot of carving a carry another smaller fixed blade or folder.

Not a Randall, but the next closest thing. A Blackjack in A2. I don't think I could bring myself to use a Randall, but this one, yes.

Jeff,

the Blackjack 125 is just a fantastic blade, I hope to get a Model 25 some day, but my 125 will have to tide me over. I have a Sergeant on order, which is very Similar to the 25, but I only have so much funds, need to make hard choices.

This is a pic of my Blackjack 125, The pic was taken shortly after getting the knife, it is much more used now

Randall's are definitely users! The Model 1-6" I carried while on active duty was used HARD! It now resides in a military collector's collection, but it could still be used for many decades!

I have had my 1-7 for close to a decade. I have used it but not as much as I would like. Its O1 and I keep it polished with Flitz. I never hesitate to use it. I just don't have much reason to. I wish it had a single hilt.

Awesome!!!

A Classic for sure, just an Idea, send it to a custom knife maker and have him sand down the hilt to make it a single hilt.

It will likely ruin it's resale value, but, it will make it much more practical for fine tasks.

A recent pic. I have done work like that myself and its easy and quick but for some reason I can't make myself ruin the classic look of this one...yet... :)

Probably never will though really.

I love my poor man's Randalls too - my Blackjacks. I have three of them now, a Model 7 in stacked leather, a 125 in stag (just like black mamba's) and most recently a Model 5 in stacked leather with the commando handle. Here's the Model 7:

always like the look of a randals blade. Im sure ill never own one as they are just not worth the price for a user knife IMO of course. I dont get much use out of fixed blades so it would just sit around bored hehe.
