My questions are: when was it made? Is this a Johnson "rough back" sheath? How much premium is in this magnificent piece of stag?, and how big a deal is it that it's personalized?

regards, m

Really nice knife! Looks like 1963ish to maybe 1970's…. The stag is great, I'd figure a 10-20% premium, and the name is subjective as far as hurt/help value… Personally I like it, some guys have them removed. I'm down here in Houston, drop me a line if you like, Bart

Thanks Bart! So; it "is" a Johnson sheath? What years did Johnson furnish leather for Randall? I love this knife! or maybe (at 13") I should call it a sword. ;) cuz it's BIG!

I recommend Sheldon Wickershams great Randall reference book, It has all of the info,,, Johnsons start around 1962 ish , and there was more than one Johnson as time went on… Great read! Did you know the person named on the knife? From the "font" it looks like Randall did it in shop, probably when the knife was ordered, Bart

I'm looking for a Randall, preferably a 12in or bigger Arkansas Toothpick, Stag or good hardwood Comando or concave grip with a Scalloped Collie Cap with matching collar or flanged scalloped brass cap would be ideal. God forbid I've lived in Longwood Fl. 15-20 min away from Randall factory since 1970 and Never ordered a Randall from the shop, the waiting list is just so long and I never know what $ situation would be like in that far future especially now disabled.. Thats a nice Bowie you got there..would take a Confederate bowie along the same lines if right circumstances are presented if anyone knows of any Rabndall's of such similarities. Sorry for posting here, but i have no knife to post in trade section so will have to talk to whoever contacts me and see what i have they may like.
Thankyou

there are Randall dealers that can get you a knife in 6 months or less. Ebay has Randall made knives for sale, some overpriced but a few good deals.

I know the 1950s Randalls bowies had thicker brass guards, than the 60s.. Butt he 50s usually had Heister sheaths.. So yours could be early 60s because the guard does look 50s to me!
