Randall #15 in O1 steel is still a good choice for a compact survival/outdoor knife or I can find something better?
Do you suggest the wide tang, or the CDT is enough for a reliable sturdy tool?
Thanks

If you are in a tropical forest or near the ocean, their stainless version would be better. Nowadays I don't use my #16 for camping trips because I find the 1/4" thick saber grind blade not good for general cutting/slicing.

I have a couple of the mod. 15s and my preference for an out door/hunting set up is as follows
Mod 15 cut down tang with the clip point grind
Stainless blade
Single Nic. Sil. Hilt
Wood or Micarta single finger grip handle or
Stag grip with the ginger grips.
Nic. Sil. butt cap
Thumb notches on top of the blade.
This is the Camp configuration and will give you an all round good heavy duty outdoor knife.
Just my humble opinion.
