I have just purchased my third Randall, a Model 16 special fighter, and I was wondering if any of you knew the history of this knife. I know it was non catalog model for a long time, and now is. I love the #1 and this is like a super tough #1. Mine wears a black micarta full finger scale and nickel silver hilt. It is my user woods knife and I love it. Thanks in advance

From memory - Introduced a dealer exclusive for authorized RMK dealer Doug Kenefick in 1978, later made available to all as a non-catalog insert option in 1994, introduced as a standard catalog model in late 1999...

Hope that helps,

Well thank you, that did help. I love the knife, it is such a good idea...a full tang #1. I am new to Randall knives, I always thought they were too expensive and so on....until I held one. Once I bought one, well I own 3 now. The 16 spl is quickly becoming my favorite. Doug had a good idea. . Thanks Melivin-Pervis.

PS I am going to have to get your book sometime. It looks like a great read. I am not a collector, more of a user and accumulator.....but there are precious few books on the subject and your seems to be quite comprehensive.

Texasbuck110, you have got yourself an absolutely no non sense built knife! Same thing happened to me many years ago, bought the iconic Model 1 APFK, many years later I own 20. I still regularly carry my Model 14.

I picked up Melvin Purvis's book a while ago, great read and very well done with tons of research and pictures!

Hah, you guys are too kind! :D

That said, the #16-7 is my favorite RMK (today) - with a BP handle and NS FCH or Model #1 style hilt it can't be beat!

Very nice TB, that #1 not bad either! That 16 will handle anything that you ask of it! They are nice to look at and sometimes they are so nice that they don't get used, however the real beauty is taking it out and using the hell out of it.

Thanks FO. I went and bought a Spec ops sheath for it so I don't tear up the leather sheath. There is a guy on here named machine26 and That guy thumps all over his. I love to see Randalls that look well used.
