I am attempting to confirm that the knife I havefrom an estate is actually a 1942 Randall Made Knives (Springfield, Mass) WWII Fighter Model #1 knife. This knife is in excellent condition. Mr. Gary T. Randall (per a 1983 letter to the deceased man whose estate owns this knife) says there were only 200 made. This knife has a great overall appearance, and comes from a group of knives from the estate of Harry Ed Hunton.

I believe this is the original leather sheath but would like any input on this if you don't mind.

This knife has has been stored in saran wrap for years. It has never been stored in the sheath. We found all of the knives stored in a box, each blade carefully wrapped in layers of saran wrap and each sheath wrapped as well.

There are no knicks in the blade. There are a few surface scratches but these appear they can be buffed out easily.

Mr. Hunton was the only owner of this knife. Some "experts" I've received emails from have said there were more than 200 made, despite what Mr. Randall says in his letter, but I cannot confirm this. Maybe there were more made in 1943, but this is an authentic 1942 knife. (They began making Randall knives in 1939)

I've taken more pictures since then, to show more detail.

Any comments about this knife would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What a Treasure of a find. Hard to believe a knife that originally sold for $25.00 just 66 years ago could be worth $2000.00 +.

Makes me proud to have bought the three that I did 10 years ago.

Good Luck with you sale.

Bill

Joseph Mosser made sheath. No two were identical due to war shortages (knives). Northhampton Cutlery. It will take a better eye than mine to confirm the 200 number. The late WWII pieces had a rough appearance. There were actually more than 200 overall Springfield pieces manufactured. The original 550 were made by Northhampton. Ah, I got the book now.....
