I am finishing up a conversion of a recent Astro to a reasonably close approximation of the original version. I need to add the screwdriver, and I am considering replacing the crossguard with a longer one to match the early knives. It will never be perfect, but I can carry and use this one, which counts for something. criticism appreciated. toad

I like the green handle. I forgot to photograph the Mercury survival kit clip on mine. It is made from early 1960s USAF fireproof fabric, left over from an ejection seat restoration. Here is the image-

My big question is about the sheath. I know the Mercury knives just had a slot in the survival kit, but I do not know about the Gemini or Apollo knives. I understand that some of the Astros were carried on Apollo, although the Case M-1 seems to have been more common. I have to assume that at some point there was a fireproof sheath for the Randall, but I have not been able to learn if such a thing really existed. I have good contacts at Air & Space, but they were unable to come up with anything about any flown sheath for the Randall. Any help appreciated. Toad

Love the treatment on both knives! The Green Tenite look as well as the Brown Mic…. Great jobs There's an Ivory or 2 out there that are pretty slick…
