Just put in the order. Its a non catalog model on their website. Has anyone own or handled this model. Im looking for any input and impressions on this model? I have 5 years to change my mind, but theres not much/nothing out there on this knife in use. I purchased it for the simplicity, thinner stock (3/16 stock). Its seems like a nice smaller outdoor/camp knife, alongside a hatchet or small axe. Im edging toward the 25 trapper but .25 stock seems to be a bit much on these under 6" models.

I am still looking for more first hand input on this blade....but on a side note. How long has it been since Randall knives has been off this forum (or am I just not seeing them). Is there a reason why they left?

Randall made fit and finish is completely sub par for the cost. I had special ordered two...a Model 14 with every bell and whistle available and a 10"(I think) dagger grind....waited about 3 years for delivery.

You name an issue, these had it. Boring wood(ironwood on the 14, and Bird's eye maple on the dagger), blades off center and canted, bad welds.....the sheaths were ok.

Have gotten damascus custom versions of the Model 14 from Bailey Bradshaw and Mike Craddock that were soooo much better, much less wait time, and in Mike's case, about the same cost.

One area that Randalls dominate in is resale value. They hold value and often increase in value due to consistent price raising.

Good luck!

I know a lot of people don't consider these customs...so there could be some bias here. I thank you for your honesty and will let Randall know to give my order some love

Given the range of options offered, I wouldn't hesitate to call them customized factory knives. Just the two I owned were badly made.

Good luck with that! When I called up with the concerns, they offered to refund my money..nothing about rebuilding the knives was offered.

They know EXACTLY what they are doing over at RMK.

Functionally, they are "ok"...the edges on mine arrived hair dragging dull. Friends have reported first hand experience breaking them fairly easily.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson.

I HAD the SS models. After the lackluster response, I cut my losses and sold them to a dealer for a $100.00 profit.

If you are talking about Al, thanks. We ALL lost with his passing, sad to say.

I use a 25 for deer hunting. I prefer the sheath style to the one that you ordered, but if you aren't going to use it the sheath won't matter. As far as the the 0.25 thickness, very little of the blade is actually that thick.

I've had luck, fit and finish wise, with Randall Knives. Randall's aren't highly finished by any stretch, if you've seen one you'll understand. They do hold value. There's a very active market for them.

A fair number of owners don't use them.

Im going to use it, but not abuse. Im not sure how wide the blade is, but a 4.5" blade at 3/16" stock is no slouch, and can take care of most practical outdoor tasks. Thats why I got the thinner grind. If I wanted a display knife I would of got a much larger blade. The sheath looks fine too me and I understand with the shorter 4.5" blade, the sheath is not big enough for the sharpening pocket. The Swamp Rat Ratmandu is 3/16" thick with a 5 1/4" blade. That knife is no slouch at all. So 1/4" thick blade seemed a little much on anything under 6". But now I get that very little of the stock is that thick on the Randalls. Thank you for the feedback bofe954

Two Randall threads in a couple weeks and I'm surprised by the comments on fit and finish! Every picture and YouTube video I've ever seen seems to show a glorious looking knife! I'm about 3 years into a wait on a model 1 6" and am glad I have a better understanding on what to expect.

They have a team of folks at Randall. Some are better than others.

It's a belt satin finish. The 14 that I had displayed uneven grinds from side to side and had very soft, washed out grind lines.

The solder of the guard to blade was thick, inconsistent from side to side and had a wavy transition to the blade.

I find this unacceptable, but it might not bother you. Wait-n-see I guess, and hope for the best.

I've had a few Randall's over the years and the best part about them is that they are easy to sell :)

At least the whole team will have 5 more years of experience by the time they get to my knife. Life is Good!:D:thumbsup:
