I spent a couple of hours getting really familiar with some Randall knives at AG Russell's today. I decided on a model 25 with stag in between the leather. Beautiful knife. As usual we called up as many as they had in the warehouse (6 in this case) so I could pick them over and find that one that really spoke to me. During that process I noticed the fit and finish of the every little detail on the handle was 100% flawless, to my layman eye anyway, as was the balance and feel of the knife. The blade on the other hand was less than perfect. Not in a custom knife manner either. I had plenty of Morseths and Doziers and other custom knives all around me. The Randall knives( all models) had these imperfections all over them. More specifically tiny swirl marks like something a grinding wheel on a Dremel would leave behind.
I have a Randall model 11 that I hard use. It's non-stainless and any trace of these marks would be long gone by now since I've had the knife since I was in high school and have skinned hundreds of critters with it by now. I'm not complaining about the marks either although they did stop me from buying one until I did a little more research. My question is fairly obvious by now but, is that normal? What are they from. They're not north to south grind marks like I've seen on countless customs before and they don't look like buffing marks either. Just thought I'd throw this thread out there before I get into one that I'm not going to use. Thanks y'all.
