I have my "Safe Queens" but I also have a Model 16 I actually use. I'd like to see pics of Randalls that are used the way they're expected to be. Here's my #16 all cleaned up with a new sheath.

I ordered a Model 16 for my Son 4.5 years ago to give to him when he graduates from West Point or Annapolis, he just turned 10 so there is no big rush but I wanted him to start his career with the best I can give him. Its supposed to ship in a couple weeks, I'll check it out on recipt and put it away until he's of age.

John,

My Dad bought this one in late '45. It was used by he and I for four decades before it was retired. It's going to my four month old Grandson when he's responsible enough to take care of it.

sorry its out of focus, i wasn't working with a great camera.

Who removed the top quillion? I will go out on a limb and say it didn't come like that from the Randall shop.

Hey Tom,

Dredging up old threads I see :D

Thanks! My Dad brought that Walther P-38 back from the European Theater in '45 along with a fair number of unopened German WWII 9mm ammunition boxes. Just for grins I fired a few rounds of it in the 60's and they still went bang.

Best,

Do you know what model that is. I have one just like it that was given to me when my neighbor past away. He was a Navy pilot. Was in during WWII and Korea.

Hi Sam,

That's a Model 3-6 that was made just post WWII. Can you post a photo of yours to include the sheath? I'd love to see it and think I can give you a pretty good idea of when it was made.

Best,

Sam, it's a Model #1-8 'All-Purpose Fighting Knife' - and I think it was made ~late WWII, probably between '44 and early '46. Nice knife, very collectible - I'd recommend getting several opinions on valuation before selling, if that's what you decide to do someday...

Very cool, thanks for sharing

Not sure I want to sell it. Even though he was not a relative of mine it has some sentimental value to me because of our friendship. What is a ball park value of this knife.

Sam, value (price) is, IMO, best discussed between buyer and seller - being that I'm neither in this case, I won't be so presumptious as to throw out a figure. That said, looking at eBay completed auctions on similar knives should provide a good past 60 day spot market value...

What is the difference "between '44 and early '46"? What would make it war time versus post war? How do you tell?

Sam,

That's a great knife and sheath! Congrats.

The market for older Randalls is depressed now and has been for a while (Along with many other collectibles). Sheldon's suggestion is a good one: [QUOTE looking at eBay completed auctions on similar knives should provide a good past 60 day spot market value...[/QUOTE], but WWII fighters that come up on e-bay are few and far between, so it's hard to get a good benchmark with just a few examples. There are significant differences in values as a function of when during the war they were produced, the accompanying sheath, the condition, etc., so to find one that matches up closely with yours is not an easy matter. Here are the only two auctions (for either a Model 1 or Model 2) that I could find in those that I have followed in the last couple of months:

I bought my first Randall, a Model #8 Trout and Bird Knife, as a user. I had it out today for the first time. I was putting out trail cameras to do some surveillance prior to the upcoming archery season for deer.

The most work it did today was to trim back a few branches and whittle a sharp stick for getting Vienna Sausages out of the can at lunch time. :)
