Randall in BlackHawk Down

In the book Black Hawk Down there is a passage where a SEAL, John Gay is shot in the hip while riding in one of the Humvees. The bullet hit the blade of the Randall he was wearing and destroyed the blade and gave him a few splinters but probably saved his life. In the footnotes it is said he approached Randall to do some advertising for them but was turned down. Any body have further info on this and did it really happen?? What model knife was it? What happened to the knife?

I read a thread on the Tactical Forums where a NAVY SEAL said it was a Randall #14 that took a 7.62.39 and the blade shattered, but might have saved the SEAL's life. I'm not sure if it was SS or CS, but the thread went on to say that Randall's were contacted about the story and that they weren't interested.
You can go to the Tactical Forums and then go to the NAVY SEAL's forum. The thread is still there, but you might have to do a search for Blackhawk Down.
