Would someone share the details or refer me to where could I find out info about the spacer colors, styles, etc. on Randall Knives?

Thanks,

Brad

Try Randall Knives web site:
http://www.randallknives.com/

You might also talk to Dave Harvey at Nordic Knives. They have an extensive line of Randalls and can get you a custom Randall order MUCH faster than directly from the Randall shop.

BTW: Randalls are not considered 'custom' knives. It is now a small production company.

Just what I needed. Thanks for the info.

I thought there was a greater rhyme and reason on the color/style themes of the spacer materials besides looks, what was on hand at the time for spacer material, a general time frame and did I mention looks.

P.S. Not trying to start a long thread, just wondering why it was decided that Randall's were no longer custom knives? Making too many?

According to the criteria established by the Knifemakers Guild, a custom knife is one primarily created by one person for one person (this includes custom knives made by a maker according to his own design). The Randall shop is a family run operation, but several different people are involved in the production of each knife. Although you can still order 'custom' modifications or specific handle materials, this does not meet the guild criteria for a 'custom' knife.

This is also true for current Chris Reeve knives, William Henry Knives, many Bud Nealy knives and several other high quality small companies.

This is no way detracts from the quality or collectibility of a Randall knife. Two of my brothers collect Randalls. I simply mentioned it because your thread was posted in the custom forum and I thought you may not realize this fact. Several decades ago, Bo Randall was making knives which do meet the guild criteria for custom knives. For the most part, these are much more valuable than those made later.

There are several Randall collecting groups. You may want to contact one of these for more information. Spim's link looks like an excellent place to start if you are interested in older Randalls.
