randall knife

A Model 8 'Trout and Bird' , Sheath looks to be a Johnson type.
Very nice ! A great family heirloom to provide you with years of enjoyment .
What a thoughtful Dad you have .

Paul.

You have an heirloom, and the beauty is, you can (should)
use it. It is already a "user" so nothing is going to hurt its value
which will probably only continue to increase.

I have that same model from about the same period. One day, one
of my sons will get it; my other son will get my model 5.

Congratulations on your new Randall.

In the Randall catalog they say that this model was with F. Gary Powers when he was shot down flying the U-2 over Russia. Enjoy that knife:D. Preston

If you are really concerned about not being able to sharpen it as any other knife, I would think that sending it to Randall for sharpening would do it.

If you have had experience with sharpening knives...sharpen it as you would others. There are many threads on BF, a search should provide you with much good information

Get a Randall's catalog, it has a page on sharpening. Hope this helps. Preston

sending it to randall may not be a bad idea, at least to put a nice edge back on it and i can keep it maintained from there.
thanks for all the helpful responses!

If you are interested, here's a picture of the knife carried by Francis Gary Powers

Thanks, I'd be interested in getting more info on items in the case...I did a Google search and thought that I found it when I located the Cold War Museum, but NO. Then went to the Eisenhower Library site but nothing there about the items.

Thanks for any help. Preston

Thank you, Steve, very interesting material. Navigating the 'net is not something I do well:rolleyes: so I appreciate you posting that link. Preston
