You don't hear much about Randalls here on the porch. What do you guys think? I found one locally for sale. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, I think it was a fair price, but spending $500+- has me thinking. Maybe need some re assurance. How many of you guys have one. Lets see em if you got em.

I collect/accumulate Randall’s. I do so because I feel they are good quality, a good investment and do a good job as a cutting device/tool.
Most of mine a safe dwellers, but I do use two. One of those two I carry frequently if I doing outdoor activities.

I’ve always been intrigued by them. I especially like the finger groove stag handles.

My hangup is the price (obviously), the tang thickness on some of their models, and the legality of a sharpened swedge in New Jersey.

I might be organizing a trade for one, though... so I’ll have a more informed decision soon.

I've made many a sheath for a Randall. Check the details, some are better than others. To misquote Falukner: "there are no bad whisky's there are just some that are better than others".

I've got two...a Model 12 (little bear) bowie with an 8" blade, and a Model 2 with a 7 inch blade; both in desert ironwood with nickel silver guards and buttcaps. When I ordered them, the posted wait time was 18 months (I think it was closer to 3yrs when I received them; but it was long enough ago that I'm not sure about that.)
I'll drag them out for pics if there's enough light when I get home.

I've had this Model 1 for years. Prices sure have gone up since then. Should have got that green micarta model 14 that was in the case with it too while it was still $200.....

That’s the one thing about Randalls. Even users are sound investments.

Partly because there is a forum devoted to collecting Randall Made Knives here on BF...

The Randall Made Knives Collector's Forum

Frank,

Before you posted this, I would've never known this sub existed! I tried to find it on my own without referencing your post, and it was pretty difficult to find. I wonder if that sub should be under Manufacturer's Forums instead of Manufacturer's Forums>Collector's forums.

I know it's kind of obscure, that's why I posted the link.
The mod of that forum is Melvin-Purvis Melvin-Purvis . You might talk to him about it.
But I think it is under "Collector's forums" because that forum is not run by Randall Made Knives, and has no official connection to the company. It's run by collectors of their knives.

Thanks. I added a link to my sig line, and you are correct in your assessment.

I have a Randall Model 5 - Camp and Trail Knife. At the time I acquired it I believed it to be ultimate sheath knife. If I were considering buying one now, it would be a Model 28 - Woodsman, with full tang construction.

I just received a Model 1-8 in a trade, and I’m impressed. Given the fact that it’s made from 1/4” stock with an 8” long blade, I thought it would feel like a crowbar. Not the case!

The hollow grind and full distal taper make it very lively in-hand, and it’s really well constructed.

I’ll probably move on from it though. I want a fixed blade to be something I carry for fishing and camping, but the 8” blade and sharpened swedge make this a murder weapon waiting to happen in the eyes of my state. I’ll likely order a 4-5” blade Randall without the insidious sharpened swedge.

Stropping Young Lad Stropping Young Lad a Model 5-4 is pretty nice. I have a Model 8-4 Bird and Trout with the top swedge unsharpened (you can request it when ordered or just dull it yourself) and a 5-4. The 5-4 is a slimmer blade.

I like the 10-5 Salt Fisherman, it's not forged (stock removal ATS-34) but the blade is only 1/8" thick. I have one in rosewood and another on the way with Duralumin handles. I find it's a very handy and durable Randall.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I had my heart set on the Stanaback Special, but I’ve apparently crossed some kind of imaginary line by trying to order one in tool steel instead of stainless, so I’m trying to figure out what I want.

I’m straddling a 5-5, 12-6 little bear, 23, or (get this) a 4-6 fighter.

I guess my range is 4”-6”.
