I have a model #1 SS that's about 45 years old. She's been regularly used for hunting & camping chores. Other than the usual scatches on the finish, she's been a great blade. She's not babied, but not used as a prybar either. She cleaned and butchered a hog a few weeks ago.

That is indeed a very fine looking knife! I hope to have one, one day and Ill be using mine as well. I dont own one so I cant comment on durability but Id be very suprised to see a complaint about its quality. That said mine wont be beaten on at all and Im guessing thats probably the case with the majority of the ones floating around being used. Ive never heard of someone comparing one to a Busse or even a KaBar for that matter... Hope ya get it!

Check out the Randall forum that we have here.

I have a Randall on order myself.

Randals are an essential part of every knife knuts education . They will handle hard use very well . You should also have no trouble selling it .

Snake Doc,

Randall Knives are the 'gold standard' of knives - not because they are the 'best' knife made, but because they have a recognizable brand name with a known resell value...

And yes, they are very well made, high quality, handmade knives...ready to be used as intended. That Model #14 would serve you well.

With regards to 'value', anywhere in the $400 range, +/- a few bucks would be a good price for the average buyer. From a resell standpoint though, the Randall 'market' is a little softer than where it was just a few years back, but that seems to be changing as of recent.

Hope that helps,

Shel

Thank's for the Info. Shel real Informative, And thank's to everyone for the reply's. I know some Knives seem overpriced but some Knives are a "Work Of Art" But like I said I use my Knives ! I wont buy a knife If It aint made to be used ! Or I've seem Folk's before that had Knives for year's and never used em, I guess It's all right If your buying as an Investment and latter Resale I guess New Condition would sell for more, But to each there own, Im useing my knive's and carry them and use em like they were meant to be used ! Take Care !

Well I got my first Randall, My Brother had It on E-Bay and he priced It Real High and It didnt sell ! Were gonna keep It In the Family. I bought It right at the End of Auction. It's In my Collection Now and "Not For Sale" ! Take Care !

Randall's are extraordinary knives built to take anything you care to throw at it. I have a model #25, 6", that I use as a camp and trail knife and it's been a superb hard use knife. The fit and finish is, I believe, what your paying the extra buck for, and knowing that it was hand made is just the icing on the cake. It's also nice getting a sheath that was built with the same level of attention that the knife was built with ...

Randall's are an American Icon like Harley's. They are made from Swedish 0-1 steel which is among the best smelted steel in the world.

Randall's are a bit unique for two reasons. one they are (as far as I know) the only production company (in the us) that still hand forges to shape there blades and two there knives are hand made and finished with no jigs or fixtures. this is the main reason for the cost.

$400 is certainly reasonable considering the current factory delivery time is 58 months. You can pick one up faster through a dealer but will pay around $100+ more depending on the dealer.

Current price from Randall for a Basic Model 14 is $350. Delivery scheduled for 2013.

Nordic knives lists it for $445. Delivery scheduled for 2009

Here is mine, Smithsonian model 12

Hello Bors, That Smithsonian Model 12 Is a "Beautiful Knife" True work of Art ! Thank's for sharing the picture, And your Info. on the Randall Knives, Take Care !

Lot's of Good Folk's on this Web-Site, I'm glad I found It and am part of It !

I have a Randall 1-7, a model 11, and a model 27. I use them all and have no complaints. I had a model 14 Attack with the Border Patrol handle but I made a gift of it to a co-workers son that was deploying to Iraq. Both he and his Randall came home intact. You can't ask for much more than that.
