Whst makes a Randall Knife so great?

I know it is iconic, but what qualities make it such a special user?

I am in no way questioning its status; quite the contrary. I would just like to learn more about the knives. I am aware of some of the background of the brand, but would like to find out more about why it stands out.

My thanks.

I think it's the nostalgia surrounding the time they were used and the men that used them. I have held them and tinkered they are VERY solid but for the money I would not cut commo with it. That makes them almost useless in my book, once again they are not useless knives I just use my knives so I would beat the crap out of a PX grade knife.

They are great users. Get one, use it and if you don't like it you can make most of your money back.

Once you get one in your hand, feel the balance and the heft and realize that it is a working work of art, you will never want to cut with anything else. I still don't have one but having held one was enough to tell me that it isn't all hype. Hype doesn't feel anywhere near that good.

They were great for their time and the designs are still quite good. The problem is that the heat treatment on the O1, an otherwise very suitable steel, is 1930's get it red in the forge out in the barn and dunk it tech and the stainless that they use is rather pedestrian.

I've had a number of Randalls and I love them. My current camping/survival/etc knife is a Randall 14. I've had it for years and it has literally saved my butt at least once and always been a pleasure to use. They are classic in design and in the materials used. And, they typically come with an excellent sheath.

They really stand the test of time.

Have had one for sometime; do I use it , no every time I think about it I remember all the other knives I have to do the same things. I still get tempted and maybe next elk season but not this one. Great knife, finely made ,good balance a real looker. Always wanted one and don't ever regret getting it.

They are good users but the fit and finish is not as good compared to a lot of similarly priced knives. They also have not moved onto better steels.

Like a Dozier knife, perfection comes with experience. I waited too long to get a Randall. Get one... now.
