Randall Lore #015 Is it Sharp?

There have been a few posts that a Randall knife was received that was not sharp enough for the customer's taste/feel. If your knife comes directly from the Randall shop, it is definitely hand honed by either Scott Maynard or Jason Randall.

In fact as living proof, I took a picture of Jason's index finger and Scott's arm. Jason tests the knife's edge with one of his fingers (see photo) and Scott tests the edge by shaving his arm (see photo). These photos taken on May 12, 2003.

All Randall knives are hand honed before they are wrapped for shipping. The knives are first honed on a Norton Tri-Hone and then finished off on a DMT Diamond Hone.

Best regards,

Rhett Stidham

I know I've managed to "nick" myself with each new Randall I receive...unless someone is planning to perform eye surgery with their new RMK, I'd say SHARP is an understatement when one speaks of their knives...:D

Back in the mid-eighties, there was a time when the Randalls were not sharpened to my personal standards, and while it did not deter my collecting of the knives, it was disconcerting to a degree.

As of late, I've rcv'd several Randalls, and they are indeed VERY sharp. Much sharper than they used to be.
