So I was going through some of my uncles stuff who passed away and I found this old knife. Being pretty knew to knives and ignorant to them I ran it up tp 1sks and showed it to Kevin he reccomended that I post some pictures of it on this forum. He did in his vast knowledge of all things knives find that its a Randall type 1 handle. What I was wondering is if anyone else knows any more info on this piece such as what the handle is made of, do the stripes mean anything, what the 6 on the sheath stands for and Ect.. :) I posted huge pictures to make sure you can see all of its detail just in case. Also these aren't the best pics they are from my iphone I will post better ones later at different angles if need be. Thanks in advance

Daniel

here's what I know;
it's a Model 1, looks to be around 6" blade which is probably what the '6' on the sheath stands for
the handle is the 'commando' pattern
the handle is ivory micarta
it has a standard hilt in brass and a brass butt cap
looks like a pretty new release

This happens to be the one Randall pattern that I would like to own, but with the standard, stacked leather handle and 7" blade

I like it! That is a beauty. You are not interested in selling that are you? :D (don't answer that please. I don't want to get you in trouble, you need to have a Gold membership level to sell, and ask for Value.)

That is a #1-6, likely from the 80's I would guess. Nickel Silver but cap with rounded edge, and a Nickel Silver guard by the looks of it. It was made of O-1 steel, and is in awesome shape, your Uncle probably loved that knife.

The spacer stacks are the standard configuration (those stripes I think you were talking about).

I'm not sure you could rule out Ivory ........CORRECTION, the sheath's sharpening stone pocket indicates the mid 80's, therefore it would likely not be Ivory. Also, I have heard that the Ivory from Randall is well known to crack.

"Modern" manufacture (mid-'80s to present), probably not ivory, but itspossible to say from looking at a photo. If it is, it's worth a lot more, of course.

Wow thanks for all the responses! Also how do I become a gold member? I have no problem throwing some money in the pot to help keep places like this free :)

OK, now you need to click on "settings" up at the top of the page, click on "group memberships" on the left, and select "gold."

Like I said, it's impossible for me to say from a photo - even a very, very good one. Odds are it's either some sort of ivorite/Micarta/resin type of thing, but it gets complicated.

Excellent! Thanks also I posted this link on the Randall knives forum. I looked and looked and didn't see it sorry to post here. If a mod would like to merge or move this one there its fine by me

Merged per request. Sam, you owe me a beer for not providing the link for the thread to merge with. Chimay (blue) will do. ;)

I never even looked at it; just took the OP's word for it. Maybe he should buy the beer.

Regardless, I'm sorry it was so hard to find alongside all those hundreds of new posts in the RMK forum.;)

Everyone's a comedian...:p

Have fun, fellas.

Hi Hammer, and welcome. Most of what was written above is correct, with the exception of the dates given - while Greg Gutcher at Sullivan's Holster Shop, RMK's current leather sheath maker, did start making C model sheaths for RMK in late December of 1986 (think, around Christmas) he wasn't actively making A model sheaths like yours until the late 1980's.

The smooth snaps were discontinued on 1/1/95, although older stock continued to be shipped until exhausted - which on RMK's #1 seller, the Model #1, would've happened pretty quickly. So, it's more likely that it was made sometime between the very late 1980's and the mid 1990's. Nice knife btw!

Hope that helps
