I have seen a few very cool looking Randall Made Knives for sale on Ebay. I spent some time looking at Randall's website:
http://www.randallknives.com/
...and see that, probably a result of the 58 MONTH delivery time, these things are highly collectible (or another way to look at it, sell very well).

From looking at the website I think I am leaning towards a "Model #16 SP#1 "Special #1 Fighter"" and a "Model A Sheath".

What additional knife features are worth while to go after? I see many on sale with G10 handles which must be a special request. I must admit, I have not tried to contact Randall as of yet.

Of course since you only pay $50 now and can save until 2011, my Wife is willing to let me order one! :D

Then go for it! look at all his options on the site and ask for everything you would want. I guarantee if you get it and dont decide to like it you can get ALL your money back no problem!

Only problem is most folks are afraid to use them. My dad took his to Viet Nam (pilot) and used it well to escape and evade when he had to 'walk home' once.

The knife is very able to save your life! If afraid to scratch it buy two! use it forever then have them refinish it for you. What I am saying is that you can use these wonderful knives- it *is* ok!

yer doomed brother. I wont have one in my house! :D (catalog that is!)

I am still leaning towards the "Model #16 SP#1 "Special #1 Fighter" but after doing some web searching, I am interesting in a G10 handle. My understanding is that you have to supply your own G10 material to Randall if you want to deviate from the Micarta.

Does anyone know where is the best place to get Green, or Blue G10 material for a #16?

Finally got my Randall Catalog...

Now I am in trouble :( . I am now torn between a Model 16 "SP#1 Special Fighter", a Model 5 "Camp and Trail Knife", or a Model 27 "Traiblazer". The Compass imbedded in the handle end seems like a winner for me. :) I might have to pick one, see if I can get the compass and see if I am driven to order another in 3 months! Although, my Wife might be upset, although she would not find out until 2011! :D

The No. 16 Special Fighter is my favorite Randall blade. The knife has perfect balance and the blade is just about as long as a person can reasonably use. It is THE knife that I would carry with me if I was headed for the woods (never to return) and could only take one. The Airman is a nice blade too. It was my third Randall. Bought them at a show at regular retail price; in those days you walk in, whip out your money, and take it home. Times have changed a bit. Now you pay a premium to get it now.

My first Randall was a Jack Crider Special. I was really taken with the blade. Still love it. They come up on ebay from time to time.

The traditional black micarta handle, nickel silver hilt makes for a nice blade on the No. 16.

For a $50 deposit, you can guarantee yourself a $285 Model #5. There's one on Ebay right now with a bid of $490 on it. Do the math :)

Well, I did it! Today I put my order in online today.

In 2011 my "Model 27 Trailmaster" should be arriving! :D

Since I was undecided between this and the Model #16 SP#1 "Special #1 Fighter".... I might have to order another in March!! ;)

I have always thought the #27 was a very handome knife. are you still going with the g-10 or are you going with the micarta? I have two randalls with micarta and they have held up very well . anyway enjoy your randall, it will be worth the wait!

Thanks. I stuck with the Micarta. I wanted to get my order in (the 5 year clock is ticking!!!!) and I was wasting time with my G10 search! :D

Maybe, someday, I will have to try something with G10. I have only heard good things about the G10 material on the Blade Forum and have never owned a knife with it.

I don't think you will be dissaponted, what color did you go with? I have mine in black micarta and they look really nice imo. I don't know if G-10 will polish up like the micarta does or not. Anyway this is the beginning of a probably lifetime addiction for you as you,i can think of a lot of worse things to be addicted to!!:D

The #14 was the gold-standard field utility knife for many SOF units over the years. The only thing that sucks is the wait.

I couldn't wait that long unless I had a few others already. I would buy on ebay and pay the price if it was outfitted the way I wanted it. Heck, in 5-years, I may not even be interested in knives any more.

Kershaw's S30V Leek comes in polished G-10. Micarta is at least as good a choice for a working outdoor knife.
