Were does Randall made knives rank in the world of hard use and abused knives. I doent mean cutting a door off a car and pinning it up on a concrete wall. But in Afghanistan in a rare survival moment of using the knife like it wasn't truly intended. Comparing to Fehrman, Busse, and other popularly abused knives.

i'm guessing no one really knows because i'm getting no love on the forum and i posted it in 3 places. Has no one abused a randall?

Hi Saylor,

As Sheathmaker pointed out, best to ask this question in another forum.

This forum is for custom knives....not factory knives...Like Randall's.

Hi Saylor,

They are a benchmade operation. One person does a handle, one person does a blade, etc.

These are not custom knives.

Custom knives will have the makers name on the blade...so you know who made the knife.

Which "Randall" made these knives?

Bo didn't make a knife after 1939.

Randall's are quality knives....however, they are not custom knives.

saylorbrand, they are handmade in a facxtory, in standard models. They are not customs. Furthermore, we don't appreciate multiple posts just because you aren't getting lots of answers. It might be, no one knows or cares.

I'm moving this to the General Knife Discussion.

Randall's are real and made for use although most probably do not see any use, at least if they do no one really seems to post about it. I got the feeling that the Randall group looked at me side ways because I posted about test cutting and sharpening a 12-11 Smithsonian, figured I was in the wrong group so I stopped posting. Calling a Randall a "custom" will also strike a nerve with the custom group. There is a thread going on over in the scrap yard about a test involving a Randall and a Busse you might drop in and check it out.

So.....

Not to fuel a fire but what about engraved knives.... One person makes it another engraves it, does this mean it's a benchmade....

i'm sure that Randalls' are not like a benchmade. benchmades do not take years to get order. benchmades do not go up in price as for resale. from what i have read the Randall knife is made by hand not machine, thus handmade.

What they mean by a benchmade knife is that it's a multiple step operation with more than one person working on a knife. So they're hand finished and assembled (as assembled as a fixed blade can be), then sent down the line to be sharpened. It's a factory operation even if it is a very small factory.

They're as real as any other knife however (the title of this thread really confuses me).

yes, benchmade as a process should not be confused with Benchmade the brand.

you could answer the original question with a question, could it be that randall knives are so desired that there is a five plus year backorder.

yes they are designed for hard use, and have been since before WWII, our soldiers have used them and they have been purchased by Presidents, Royalty and numerous knife collectors and makers, with excellent attention to detail.

they are not just collector pieces made to set in a safe and gain monetary value.
buy one and use it for what you want.

always remeber that knife is not a hammer nor an axe. the handles are not long enough.

Randalls haven't appreciated all that much unless you get past 25 - 30 years of age - which puts it in the Vietnam era of military provenance. They just have a big following - and yes, many do use them hard. A search of posts over the years will show that.

As for them being a benchmade knife constructed by a team of craftsmen each specializing in a particular operation - no question. Randall is very open about this. It is a small factory operation.

The same is true of some other makers - take CRK for example, who has a staff to do most of the production work. His customs do come out of the shop - but the bulk is high end factory production knives. And nice work, too.

the forum said custom/handmade knives. Randall last I heard were hand made, am i wrong.

hey saylorbrand, you've asked almost the same question in 3 different forums. you get tidbits of information, then call out les robertson (a dealer of custom/handmade knives). bad form in my opinion.

just do some research (google, since your not a paying member). buy if you like what you find out. better yet, for $10, buy a basic membership here and search your hearts content.

randall made knives interest me, i've done my research, and will soon score one. now to raise some scrips!:D

cheers, kimo
