Hello all! First of all i would like to let everyone know that im new to this site and new to knives so please forgive my ignorance ahead of time. I stumbled across this site while researching a the Randall Made knife that i recently rescued from being tossed into the dumpster inside of an old building. I would like to get everyones opinion on what Randall Made model this blade might be as well as the value of this amazing looking peice.
The knife has an engravement "Randall Made Orlando Florida", along with the case and they both look very old. It has a single sized 4 1/2 inch blade with what appears to be bronze metal seperating the blade from the handle. The knife is about 9 1/2 inches long and the handle is made of what appears to be petrified wood or Antlers. From my research this may be "Stag". The handle has two holes at the top which looks like it may be for a strap along with an old style black compass that still works is burrowed at the top of the handle. I and appreciate ahead of time whatever info anyone can offer. Thanks!

You are a lucky man; Randall-made knives are very good cutlery, and iconic to boot. Can you post a photo?

Thanks! Im not sure how to post a photo on here. My guess is that you have to sign up for a premium membership though.

Very intressting.
Register photobucket and you can post pics. I would be very glad if you posted pics of the knife as I'm in to Randalls myself:-).

That's a good save, I live right down the road from their shop if you want to putt a picture up I could stop by and ask them. I personally think their knives are way overrated. I was disappointed with some of the craftsmanship I saw as well as the five year waiting period for a knife, and the price is rediculous in my opinion for a stick tang with the materials they are using. But I regress, post a picture and ill gladly stop by the shop to ask for you.

Welcome to Bladeforums dbecker. Sounds like you got a nice knife there. I'm going to move this thread to the Randall forum. We've got some Randall experts here that should be able to give you the info you're looking for. Pictures will help. You can use a site like Photobucket to post pictures here. Upload your pictures to Photobucket and post the link.

As a word of caution, please do not ask about value as it is against the rules at your current membership level.

Enjoy the site!

Jason

I wasnt aware asking values was against this site's rules so ill reframe from doing so in the future.

Yes...unfortunately some folks in the past have used it as a way to get around the membership requirements needed to sell on this site. If you have a few moments, you'll find links to the FAQ and Exchange Rules in my signature.

Hi, it has the look of a 1960's vintage RMK Model #11-4.5 Alaskan Skinner and is in pretty rough shape. The 'S' (stainless steel, type indicator) looks to be user added to me. It's still got lots of use left in it, however, so use away - it won't add or detract from its value at this point.

Ron, every squirrel eventually gets his...oh wait, that's your line, nevermind... :)

Morrow, send me one of yours and I'll take care of that for ya... ;)

So without trying to sound like im trying to sell the knife, is the knife worthless because it is beat up? Is it rare?

By the way, i appreciate the replies. Falcon i actually live in Orlando too but Randalla is only pen Mon - Thursday while im at work. I would love to take it there just to confirm Melvin's research and give him props:)

Morrow, i actually like the beat up look too, wish i had a much cooler story about how it got that way....lol

It's not worthless and it's not rare - it's a user, so use it... :)

OP,

The logo is etched and not stamped (That could have happened for several reasons). I'm not sure about the seemingly hand scribed "S", but out of curiosity I'd like to know if the blade is stainless or not. If you have any liquid gun blueing, can you put a drop on and see if it wipes off or "takes"?

Also, if you do get a chance to bring it into the shop, I'd be curious about what they tell you (As I mentioned, I'm in Shel's camp)

Thanks,
