I recently inherited a beautiful knife that belonged to my grandfather. It’s a Randall made. Before yesterday, I had never heard of Randall made, but after google searches, I am more aware of how nice they are. It came in a sheath and after a bit of research, learned it is a model #4 7”. I never knew my grandfather had the knife... he usually told me about the things he was proud of, so it’s surprising I never heard about this knife. I’m hoping besides the model number and length of blade, I can learn a little more about it. I’m hoping to learn how to polish it up, make it really shine, so I can display it. I’m also hoping to find out when it was made? I know there are some secrets about the stamp on the blade, but I can’t seem to figure it out. Any help from this forum would be absolutely appreciated.

Looks like a 1960s 4 7 Hunter Skinner. Do you have the sheath?
Not sure what secrets are on the stamp. I think it should just say "Randall Made, Orlando, FLA"
Maybe a photo of the blade stamp would help.
The first step is to buy a tube of Flitz or Simichrome and rub down the blade vigorously
and see how it looks. Anything else comes after that.

Maybe post it in the Randall subsection, it’s hidden at the bottom of “manufacturers forums” under “collectors forums”.

It’s a nice knife. The wood handle is an upgrade.

pictures of the sheath would help date it, if you have it.

Honestly I’d send it back to get cleaned up so it’s done right and backed with a little provenance so that the future owner isn’t getting a knife that’s been messed with by an amateur. Not a knock on you of course, it’s just better for any maker to fix up their own work vs someone else doing it.

Beautiful knife, the wood handle looks great. As others have said, there is no way to date it off the stamp (definitively).

You've got a treasure there. I wouldn't try to polish it up.
This right here. Its got your grandfather's story in there. Its got a beautiful patina on it that can only be earned through time and use. My opinion is to oil the blade to stave of rust and display it as is.

I will post a picture of the sheath.

Thank you for your help. I posted a few more pictures at the bottom. I love the wood. After looking at some pictures, I think it may be Mexican desert ironwood... maybe
