Yes, I know Randall makes a fine knife, but I was wondering if the model 18 really is a good choice being that it is two seperate peices of metal fashioned together to make the complete knife? Has anyone out there had one break?

I have never heard of one breaking but I am sure the warranty would cover it if it did.

This question has come up on the forums a few times. No one has reported blade handle separation on any of the higher quality hollow handled survival knives. Most of those problems seem confined to the cheaper entry level knives.

What I did see once was an example of a model 18 that had suffered blade failure at the sawteeth. But, that knife had obviously been used very hard. Both the Model 18 and the model 14, which uses the same blade pattern, have the highest reputation for combat/field use.
