I started working on a new resource for the Randall community over the weekend, and got it to the point that I feel comfortable announcing it to the forum. It is an FAQ for ordering Randall knives, meaning about placing an order, and specifying options. See: http://lundestudio.com/RandallOrderingFAQ/

In other words, the purpose of the FAQ is not about about buying vintage Randalls, or buying Randalls that are already built.

Anyway, please check it out when you have an opportunity. Of course, any and all feedback is welcome.

Ken,

I sincerely hope your FAQ's will be received in the spirit they were presented. Nicely done. Do you know, by chance, if the bead blasted handle finish on the Triathlete and Tailor's model knives is now standard? In the past, said finish was a cost option by request.

I just now discovered your post, Ken. I haven't had much time to look at it, but I note that you state that all-black spacers are a chargeable option. They are an option, yes, but there's no charge. I'll let you know if I catch anything else after I've had a chance to look this over a little more carefully.

Great job! It's about time someone pulled all this information together in one place (other than rattling arounf inside all of our heads).

Thank you. I should also add to the FAQ that all-red spacers can also be specified. Given what you wrote, alternate spacers are considered a chargeable option only if they include metal, meaning brass or nickel silver as standard materials, or sterling silver as a supplied (by Doug Cream) material.

That is correct, yes.

According to RMK, both knives are standard with the sandblasted handles, and that is the only way that they are supplied. In other words, a non-sandblasted handle cannot be specified. The FAQ was just updated accordingly.

I made a few tweaks to the Randall Ordering FAQ recently, including a new page (FAQ Item I-7).

Great info thanks!

Of course I should actually open the Bird and Trout that came in last week. After 5yrs and 4mns of waiting though I want to wait till the time is right and I can enjoy it more. Maybe my Christmas gift to me.
