I am looking at a #5 randall and have a few questions

A) knife looks (from pics) new and unused but I cannot find this knife with this grip anywhere on the net I'm not very familiar with Randall's as they are usually out of my price range All the #5's I have seen have either a leather stacked with aluminum tip, mircata with aluminum tip or stag grips this is a Black mircata with no but, has aluminum tube thong hole, compass recesed into but, red white black white red spacers then a single side nickel hilt.

B) blade is described as Stainless steel I thought the only stainless blades were the fishing series Am I mistaken?

I have pics but have to find a new place to host them The seller is asking $600 for this and states he bought it new in '98

If the seller is a member here no offense just looking for more info

Hi:
I'm no expert but I hope this helps until someone more qualified can respond.

The specs you cited are very "doable" and pretty normal.

First, Are you sure the spacers are not RED, WHITE, and BLUE?

The aluminum thong hole goes with the nickel silver hilt (brass hilts would have a brass thong hole insert if a thong hole was ordered)

The compass in handle means there can't be a butt cap; though you can get a micarta handle plain (without compass or butt cap or butt plate)

The S/S is an option on most if not all Randall's.

This info is from the Randall site.

"Brass hilt and Duralumin butt cap are standard. This is a straight-bladed knife preferred by many for all-around camp and trail use. Also ideal for yachtsmen and sailors for general boating purposes. Among users of this model is Bradford Angier, famed wilderness expert and author, whose special adaptation is the nickel silver hilt, and black Micarta handle, wrist thong and compass. The late Ross Allen, internationally known authority on reptiles, also carried a Model 5. Top of blade in front of hilt notched for thumb placement"

It sounds like something you can get from Randall. Black micarta is a handle material option and they can put a compass in that material handle butt. I don't think all the options are shown on the Randall site, but the hard copy catalog has them so you may want to order a catalog copy off the site.

I did some more searching and I found a knife that is basically the same as the one the seller has Any oppinion on value?
