I was not aware this off-catalog beauty was still being made! I noticed one new-in-box on the Nordic Knives website and clicked fast. I'd been thinking about acquiring a Triathlete for quite some time, ambidextrous sheath and all. I'm told by a Randall collector that I paid too much ($350), but I like new and I like reputable dealers. Interesting that the holes still have irregular spacing. Comments?

The bad spacing is reflective of craftmanship, ( too big of a hurry, not taking the time). The grip wrapped with paracord would make it a non-issue. Very nice blade though, I like it. A friend has one and he lucked out bought it right in the shop at regular price.

Seems like they all have that same spacing, exactly the same down to the nanometer, tho I read somewhere that many years ago they took at least one knife back and exchanged it for a new one with evenly-spaced holes. Perhaps the arrangement is intentional, for balance?

One possible explanation is the "pattern jig" for the drilling of holes is placed on top of 10 or more blanks, and drilled all together making the holes. They may need to make a new drill jig if too many people complain.

Anyone know what the "catalog" price is on a triathlete? I have been thinking that I want to get one but would at least like to have a price gauge to work from? Thanks.

Thanks Rod. I think I'll put in an order. Looks like folks have done a lot of interesting things adding handles to those. Might have to give it a try.
