Randall vs. SOG

Depends on what your definition of "better" is. During my 23 year Army career, I carried three Randall knives (a #16, #14, and a #1). I did not carry a SOG, although some did. I did carry a SOG PowerPlier though, and it worked well for me. I gave each of my two sons and two sons-in-law, their choice out of my "then" Randall collection.

I don't own any SOG knives but I did keep a couple of Randalls and have another one on order.
 
Well, Randall is a Custom knife and SOG is not. For me, the Randall TOTALLY outclasses any SOG for me.

Yeah, you are right!! Who the heck asks in the Randall forum, whether of not a SOG is better. Puuuuuuuuuuuuleeeeeeeezze!!

In a post by Texasboy, I have learned that he is 13. So this was an HONEST question.

texasboy: The Randall knife IS a custom, handmade knife. They ARE made 1 at a time.There is no beating a Custom knife for quality!! It is of the highest quality. SOG's are production knives that are massed produced. I hope this helps.
 
Sorry if I jumped on you there. I teach Grade 7/8. If that question came from one of my students, I would have given you the answer you're looking for.

Randall = High Quality
SOG = Bang for the buck
 
First you have to find someone old enough to buy it for you. Hondo is right though the SOG is a great knife but the Randall is better. The SOG is definetely a better choice if you are on a budget.
 
Well, if his parents order one for him now, since he is 13, he will have it when he is 17-18.
 
There is a five year wait. I knew Randalls were custom made knives. I got $300 for Christmas last year and my dad said he would by me a model 27 Trailblazer. I got a Marlin 336C 30-30 instead. Just because I am 13 does not mean I am stupid. My dad has taughtme plenty about knives. I know that when ordering a Randall the catalog price is not guarantied but if you send $50 dollars it will lock in that price. The only reason I asked that question is because I got a SOG catalog and some German said his SOG could out do both of his Randalls. When I told my dad that he didn't think so but said Germans knew their knives and steels. If ya'll remember being a kid you know how much what your dad said influenced your own opinion. I am going into the ninth grade Hondo.
 
texasboy, it seems to me that you are more articulate than many of the adults that I see roaming the internet.

When I was 13 I didn't know what a Randall was. You're ahead of me.

Germans say all kinds of crazy stuff. Don't pay him no mind.
 
texasboy, no one said you were stupid! Hey, when I was your age, I had been carrying a knife for 4 years.I currently only buy and use Custom knives. Are you going to be ordering a Randall? I recently just ordered myself a Randall. I am looking forward to 2012, when it will arrive. I hope you enjoy your time here on BF.
