After a year of waiting my two Randalls are finally here. They are #14's, 7.5 inch blades, Border patrol gray micarta handles, full visible tang, nickel silver hilt and 440 B or C steel. The leather sheaths are impressive. The blade appears to be pretty thick all the way to the tip. I stabbed one of the blades into a 4x6 wood beam fairly hard and yanked sideways several times with no affect to the blade. The tip was about 1/2 inch into the wood when I did this. Of course I have done this many times with other knives and have had no problems.

What you bought is arguably the finest all around fighting/utility knife made anywhere.
You WILL leave them to someone, hopefully kids or grandkids. Those particular knives have gotten many crewmen out of crashed helicopters, airplanes and even trucks. They have been used to cut the tops out of 55 gallon drums, something I'd never subject mine to, only because they mean so much to me.

Enjoy them, knowing the wait was well worth it. And be glad you only waited a year. I had to wait 2-1/2 years for mine.

Congratulations on your new "babies".

Star, thanks. The quality for a manufactured knife is excellent. It is more of a custom look. I have plenty of other knives to abuse, so these won't be opening any drums or ammo cans or crates.

Congratulations!
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Randall's, and the #14 has been one of my favorite carry knives for years. I have used and abused mine for everything and it still looks new.
How about that grey micarta? I didn't know that was an option, can you post a pic?
Enjoy,
Russ

Russ, I'll post a pic of the knife when I get back top DC so you can see it, in the first week of June.

The best way to describe the micarta is a gray black combo, that almost has a greenish tinge to it. The pattern is visible and looks really good. It is in between polished and rough. Looks very good. In fact the micarta that I saw on a TOPs Anaconda appeared to be similar.

Did you say a full tang Randall? Is this somthing new?

He said visible tang Randall. The model 14 has a heavy 1/4" by 3/4" thick tang that runs along the top of the handle. It makes for a very strong and very comfortable handle.

Congrats Cobalt ! I've had the same model with your options - except the gray micarta -since about '86. It's quite a sharp slab, yea ? I'm really curious about the gray micarta ! That's gotta look pretty cool. Love to see a scan. Maybe it's time to order another 14.

I don't think there was any choice in the micarta. More likely than not, it was the batch that they got that was probably lighter than normal or something like, I'm guessing. In any case, it looks really nice. Who knows, maybe it is an option or something.
