I was looking for a good bpacking knife a came upon the TAK 4.25 inch knife made by Ontario. I was looking at the D2 model as was wondering if anyone had any experience with this knife, pros and or cons, or the one in 1095.
I picked up a "TAK" last year in D2. The edge, although sharp, was not to my liking. So, I put in on my Lansky diamond sharpener, to aquire the edge I desired. D2 is pretty hard, and took a while to get the edge I wanted. I'm now very happy with the present sharpness. Most people I know will tell you it takes a little effort to profile D2, but when you get the edge you want, it'll last a long time. I got it from: www.onestopknifeshop.com
I have the one in 1095. There is another difference between the D2 and the 1095 model. The D2 blade is left a bit thicker at the tip. I was told it because they use the same tool's to grind both and the D2 is harder then the 1095. So they limit time on the grinders to save the belts and such. They do that to keep the cost down. I love my TAK and plan on picking up another in D2 this summer.
This was posted by Jeff Randell on another forum. It explains the reason for the tapper difference.
