Hey guys, here's the most recent one finished. This is my favorite size and shape for a hunter. The handle is very comfortable in many different positions and the blade is, to me, an ideal size for a hunting knife. I don't make many damascus knives as I like to use damascus I've made myself. I don't have many chances to make much...........yet. :) This blade and fittings are all from random billets I made last time I was at Ed Caffrey's, which has been a while now. I dug deep into my old stock of buckeye burl for this one. Lots of crazy burl and figure.

Specs:
Hand forged blade from my own 1080 & 15n20 damascus
8" overall, 3 3/4" blade, .195" thick at the ricasso
Heavily rounded spine and ricasso edge
Fittings and finial from my own damascus also 1080 & 15n20
Bronze coined spacer
Stabilized buckeye burl handle, file carved

All comments welcome.

Take that, Quesenberry! ;) :p

Beautiful Knife John.
I really like the extras like the coining and the shaping that you did.
Really adds a lot while remaining tasteful.

Beautiful piece of workmanship, love the whole package, especially with the guard on it, I personally don't like a hunter without a guard. Like the rounded blade, again NICE!

Seeing some great looking hunters posted here tonight and this is no exception.
The overall profile, the Damascus, the guard and especially the Damascus and coined bronze spacers really top it all off.
Personally, I'm not crazy about the handle material. I can't help but imagine it with a nice Ironwood.:thumbup::thumbup:

John, I really like this knife. Just the right amount of embellishment. You are right on the killer buckeye. You must of not had that in your stash when I went through it:eek:

thanks for sharing

Kevin, this one almost got a really nice piece of koa but I haven't made a knife with buckeye in a while and I have quite a bit of nice stuff like this. Maybe the next one will have koa or ironwood. :)

Thanks for the feedback.

Excellent rendition of a hunter. I really like the total package. Very clean.
