Went out to LaMar's donuts today wearing my DDR shirt, and the clerk recognized it, and said "Isn't Darrel Ralph a knife designer? I love his balisongs." We started chatting about knives and about Darrel, and a couple behind me wanted to know why Darrel's knives were so special. So I pulled out the Gun Hammer, and the wife took a good look at it, and said, "Honey, you should get one of these. This is the most gorgeous and artistic knife I've ever seen, and if you must spend money on a knife, you should get one like this." The husband gave me this look that seemed to say, "Thank you SO much, I never get to buy knives," and got this really big grin on his face. Maybe I was just reading too much into it, but it sure was satisfying to have a random DDR encounter and get to share the DDR love with another set of fans. They were avidly talking to the clerk about knives and about the DDR balisongs when I left.

Legends Live Forever. Amen to that.

That's awesome! Around here, people would be freaked out if I pulled out my knife right in front of them.

Well, I wouldn't do that most places, but the couple was clearly interested in knives, and when someone wants to know why Darrel's work is so special, the easiest way is to just show them the knife and let them see for themselves. Some knives don't speak for themselves, but I think most people that know craftsmanship and knives can recognize just why Darrel's creations are worth the price.

I agree. When I saw some of his really elaborate custom folders at the NYCKS, I was in awe. I had seen pictures but the real deal just sells itself (as the woman in your story realized :D ).

Was it the m390 Gunny that you had on you? Great story and thanks for sharing btw.

Nope, haven't seen hide nor hair of the M390 Gunny. Been checking the mail every day too :( It was the copper handled one from TNK.

Great story! I love to meet fellow knife "nuts" like us. And newbie "nuts" are even more fun. It's so much fun to share my knowledge with someone that really want's to learn about something they realized they are obsessed with.
